The Bionis and The Mechonis, 2 giant titans in an endless sea. Long ago, the Mechonis suddenly began to attack the Bionis. The Bionis is home to many organic lifeforms. Most noticeably the Homs, a humanoid species, the Nopon, a race of small egg shaped animals, and the High Entia, a legendary race of wing-headed humanoids who lived in isolation. It also wielded an unusual high tech blade called the Monado. The Mechonis, was home to countless of brainless machines called Mechon, but housed no life. The result of this violent feud was the death both titans, and them being locked in battle forever. At least, that's what the legend said.
Thousands of years after this battle, the Mechon started a sudden attack on the life forms of Bionis. The Homs and Nopon fought gallantly against the Mechon for years, and seemingly defeated the Mechon in the Battle of Sword Valley(The Mechonis's blade). Mostly from the help of Colony 9 heroes ,Dickson and Dunban (who used the legendary Monado, the only weapon that could effectively damage the mechon, but lost the use of his right arm from using the mysterious blade.)
A year after the Battle of Sword Valley, the mechon suddenly struck again. With Dunban being the only known Homs to wield the Monado, but too crippled to fight, another person had to wield the Monado to save Colony 9. This person was Shulk, a young scientist doing research on the weapon. During this battle, Dunban's younger sister and Shulk's "love interest", Fiora, was killed. The killer was a faced mechon, who was immune to the Monado's damage.
Soon after the Mechon retreated, Shulk and his best friend set off to get revenge on the mechon that killed Fiora. Traveling trough the whole Bionis and facing many hardships, Shulk met others who decided to aide him in his quest for revenge. The group eventually discovered that Fiora was not killed, but captured and turned into a faced Mechon. With the new goal to rescue Fiora, Shulk and friends traveled to Sword Valley. They met Egil, leader of the Mechon, but were knocked off Sword Valley with Fiora and landed on the Fallen Arm of the Mechonis. Here, they met the lifeforms of the mechanical titan, the Machina.
The machina asked Shulk to stop Egil, who planned on reviving the Mechonis to destroy the Bionis. Traveling to the Mechonis Core, they made many shocking discoveries. It was the Bionis who attacked the Mechonis first, and caused the near extinction of the Machina, causing Egil to want to destroy the Bionis. What was also learned is that the 2 titans each had a soul, who both rested after the tiring battle. The soul of the Bionis, Zanza, lied dormant as Shulk's Monado. And finally that the titans were not dead, but merely resting.
When Zanza reawoke, it was revealed that his intentions were not pure. He wishes to destroy all life forms of the bionis to regain the energy spent to create them and recreate the the world to continually destroy and reform. Killing Meyneth, the Mechonis's soul, and destroying the Mechonis, Zanza initiated the plan to kill off all the life forms of the Bionis. Using the help of a few traitorous Bionis people and the Telethia, a species of monsters that only live to kill, it was clear that Bionis was in grave danger.
The peoples of the Bionis must now band together to defeat Zanza. But they'll need to find the ones who have been secretly aiding Zanza first. It is a matter of life or death of an entire planet, what will you do?
