I'm referring to trades with BTB, Collectibles, Villagers, In-Game Items, Art, etc. I don't know if this is the first time you've seen this post or whatever, but it is what it is.

Justin made a thread and sells the hairy foot collectible for 20,000btb. I can pay it straight away. The btb is practically his. Why is it okay for him to accept someone's offer in a PM before he would accept mine? It sucks because I was the first to post an offer. I even posted that I'd give him 20,001btb for it instead. Shouldn't it be wrong for accepting a PM offer before he accepts one in the thread that he made it for? It's completely unfair and quite annoying to me. Is there a way this can be fixed?

Unfortunately there isn't really anything that we can do because we can't force someone to trade with someone. If you did make an offer, but you feel you were robbed by a snipe-PM offer, you can always leave negative feedback to reflect this.

You can trade to or deny trade to anyone you want. If I was selling an egg for 2000 TBT Bells and you offer me 4000 for it immediately, but I want to sell it to my friend for 2000 TBT Bells anyway, I can do that.

solution: pm them yourself
also:
- u dont know if the person pming pmed first
- u dont know the order the person checks their threads - they may have checked ur offer first and chose to take the higher one
if ur so annoyed about it either dont buy from ppl unless they say theyll check their thread first/not accept pm offers/ONLY accept pm offers or just leave negative feedback (which imo would be kinda rude since its nearly impossible to get rid of negative feedback, and u could just message them and tell them that it was rude so they know for next time)

Exactly. Justin selling something to someone else even though he checked your offer DOES NOT MEAN that he should trade with YOU.
And besides, it would have probably been a friend of his, thus the reason why he chose the lower offer.
Sometimes, its best to not to complain first, then think about it later.

also (this isnt directed at you in particular, since u have 100% feedback) but the person they may pick to trade with may have better feedback, or just be a person well known to be a good trader, etc

in summary - it's not really yours to control, complain all you want but people follow their own trading rules

They probably saw the notification for the PM before seeing your offer TBH, if someone PM or VM's me I'm going to know before I check my threads, but I usually check Time Stamps so I can give it to the first person. That's really up to the person making the sale though.

@Jake you say there's nothing to be done, but can't a mod/admin make a rule that tells people to keep it in the thread? I mean... what's the point in the thread if you're just going to do it by PM? Even if it is for a friend. Even if you ignore the first few posts for that friend. The friend should still have to post in the thread right?

Lol okay. This has never happened to me. I was just being curious on what some of you had to say. Especially from the staff. Thanks for the feedback.

Our current rules only disallow PM bids in auctions because they can easily be fudged to bump the selling price up; but for regular shop/selling threads, they are allowed. I understand it may be frustrating and/or annoying, which is why I said you can leave them negative feedback. If you truly do feel like you were blindsided, there's nothing wrong with leaving a wifi rating to reflect this, that's the entire reason we have the wifi rating system, to give feedback to other users and then let the feedback speak for itself when someone wants to trade with them. If the seller wants to dispute this they always can always bring it up with a member of staff.

Lol okay. Btw... I always thought Wifi feedback was used when you went to another's town. Say if I went to your town... I'd give you a positive rating because it was a clean connection. Then I go to Justin's town and give him a negative review because his connection was laggy... This is what I thought that was for. Lol

That was the original and only purpose, but at some point we morphed the rating into including transactions in general too. Hence the name Wi-Fi / Trade Rating. Also, the ratings appear in TBT Marketplace board too. :)

TBT Rules said:
The feedback system is used on The Bell Tree for Animal Crossing online gameplay, Animal Crossing transactions, and forum bell transactions.

As for the topic in general, yes we could of course make it a rule for all types of transactions and not just auctions, but we have to be careful drawing a line somewhere. Nobody wants to be on a forum that is overly restrictive either and it would be a bit draconian to legally bind you to all transactions. People naturally have their own friends or preferences sometimes, it's not really our place to force folks to trade with someone for the most part. (as Jake said, there are good reasons to for auctions in particular)
