You need to invite your first campsite visitor no matter who it is. Don’t waste several days attempting to change the village. He won’t leave and you’ll be forced to invite him anyway. Also, you can choose where your buildings are except for the Resident Services and your Airport. Make sure you like the locations before settling on a layout. You can change your layout with terraforming. You cannot change the location of your two river mouths or the dock. The location of your river mouths is important. I find having two south river mouths very difficult, but unfortunately, that is what I have. You can design your rivers, but not where they meet the ocean.
Remember to shake your hardwood trees in order to find 2 furniture pieces daily- it'll help a lot in the long run if you want to collect different color variations. (There is also 1 guaranteed wasp and 1 furniture piece on each Mystery Island with hardwood trees, so if you're hunting for someone, you can also look for them!)
If you're picky about how homes look, be aware that your first 5 residents won't have their "true" house- they are stuck with a "default" house.
There are many seasonal items on sale at the Nook Shopping Seasonal tab on the app/atm machine on Resident Services. Keep on eye on them, as they are limited-time.
~Fruits, Veggies and Bamboo~
You start out with a native fruit. When you use the Dodo airport, you have a chance finding an island with your "sister" fruit. Villagers sometimes give you the sister fruit as well. For the rest of the fruits there are plenty of users here that will gladly give them to you. Coconut trees are found on every Dodo island and there is a Bamboo Island as well. You can also get Bamboo shoots from Daisy Mae the Turnip Girl when you buy turnips. Pumpkin seeds are only available in the autumn around Halloween so you either have to wait or time travel if thats your thing.
first things first...buy a wetsuit immediately *resident services has them!* the ocean critters get quite a bit of bells!
if you are online and need anything, just ask the folks here. most of them will be more than happy to visit your island to either trade or give you what you need.
So a few thoughts from my side, specifically about bells and miles.
Bells
1. If you're open to time travelling, the easy way to get bells early is by re-burying money in the bell tree holes. I always get my first 30,000 bells, find the hole, bury it, and then fast forward a day, bury another 30,000 bells, then another day... etc. After the 3rd day, you still bury but you're also harvesting the x3 rewards. After a few hours (or a day if you have the time), you can build up hundreds of thousands and eventually millions of bells quickly to buy all of the furniture and upgrades you desire.
2. If you're not open to time-travel, ocean creature churn and turnips are the way I have always found to get money... don't be afraid to buy big on turnips and use the Turnip Stalk Exchange here on the forums to sell during the week. It's a lot slower now than it was way back at the beginning of ACNH, but there's still one person a week with 400+ rates.
Miles
1. The secret to miles is to diversify your activity as much as possible. Allocate time to build furniture, talk to residents, fish and capture bugs, swim, plant stuff, etc. You want to start stringing streaks to get the miles together quickly. If you time travel and do it at the same time as you do the bell tree planting, you can churn up a lot of miles quickly.
