Hey all, so I have 9 villagers currently and have not put down my 10th plot yet. I didn't want a rando to move in so I have saved it until one of my villagers decides to move.

I have heard some conflicting stuff online about the 10th villager plot and how you can't invite someone to it and it has to be someone completely random? I was hoping to set down my 10th villager plot once I can trade my moving out villager with someone else if that makes sense. Or does that not work?

Please let me know. Thank you!

I also want to know a definite answer because mine was from a villager void and I honestly don't know how I missed that. I had invited Lobo over from a random island and when I decided to go over to another island there wasn't a villager there. When I arrived back to see if there was a random move in on that empty slot and there was. When he was there with boxes he said he came from such and such town and it was from someone that I traded with and had dropped by in my island.

the only way you get a 10th villager is through amiibo OR through getting it from a friend's town (which explains why Noctis got his friend's villager)!

ooh okay got it! so my plan of setting down my 10th villager plot, going into someones town and getting a villager, and then they can take my boxed villager trade will work?

I got my 10th villager through an Island Tour.
I put down the plot and went on a tour so no, it doesn't have to be through an amiibo or adoption at all.
Sherb is moving in tomorrow.

Only 1 villager spawns per day after the initial 3 after your starters.
So you best bet is to put down a plot, invite villager.
Go to 2nd day, put another plot and invite another villager... and so on.

thank you for sharing! Good to know that it doesn't have to be a complete rando.

Hello! Just want to comment that I placed my 10th villager plot, did not use amiibo, did not invite any villager from an island, and had not visited another player's island. Sherb moved into my 10th plot randomly and completely unexpected.

To add, the only player island I have visited at all is my boyfriend's, and he only just got his 5th villager. So there should be no void villagers from his island.

+1 I had this happen to me twice. The third time, I found pekoe on an island and invited her.

Sorry, I'm confused by some comments here.

I'm at 9 villagers right now. I'm waiting for someone who's trading me a villager I want and that would be my 10th. I'll obviously wait until that villager is in boxes until I set down the house. Will that work?

It should work, yeah! As long as you do both within the same game day, it should be fine. I made the mistake of putting a plot down and then using Amiibo to get my 8th villager. By day 2 of the Amiibo process (since it takes 3), Chow had randomly hijacked the plot I placed.

I was wondering if I won’t be allowed a 10th villager? I have a second player sharing the island and so far I only have 9 villagers. I tried to invite amiibo but they say the island is full :(

I don't believe a second player should impact this. If you don't have an open plot placed for that 10th villager, they will say the island is full. Place your 10th plot and ask them again. I had this issue with Deirdre.

Just popping in to mention I got my 10th on an island tour as well. I also placed the rest of the my plots after my campsite villager the day I could purchase them from Nook. I placed the plot for my campsite villager (Curlos) as 6th and then bought and placed 4 more from Nook. I got the rest of my villagers from island tours. I picked up Bianca the same day as Curlos. I got Zucker and Sherb the next day, and yesterday got Marina for my 10th! I don't think it has to be a random.

Oh, I see! Damn, that sucks :/ I hope you get all your villagers!

It absolutely doesn't have to be random, but I've seen a lot of posts saying the 10th HAS to be invited by Amiibo, islands, or someone else's island, which isn't true!
Also, you got lovely villagers!!

Thank you for the swift reply. I never received a tenth plot oh no. When I talk to Tom nook he says he has no other tasks for me.

I personally got Zucker from the Nook Miles Island. I time traveled a few days forward and backward and no one moved in. This is just my personal experience.

If your resident services tent has upgraded into a building, there should be an option to talk about infrastructure when you interact with Tom Nook. It might be under a different option, but one of them should involve "Selling Land". You'll have to pay 10,000 bells to place a plot, but once a villager moves in you'll be given 1,000 Nook Miles for it.

So what happens when a villager moves out? Does the plot stay there? If so, how do you get an amiibo villager if someone else will inevitably move in while you’re trying to get the amiibo villager?
