16 Villager Cycle

I think I know the answer to this, but I want to make sure.

I'm going to cycle through villagers to get Wolfgang back. As I can only lose one villager, this is going to take up a decent amount of time in order to prevent another accident.

My question: Can I give the villagers I'm cycling through to other people (via TBT or tumblr), or do I have to send them to the void?
