You're going to want to burn Nook Miles on tickets to travel to islands. Make sure you haven't eaten fruit, then bang rocks with your shovel.
Pro tip: Dig a couple holes behind you before you start hitting the rock. This will keep you from scooting backward, and open up the possibility of getting 8 items from a single rock.
