Rare Life-Form
Contains spoilers for Spring bugs!! Southern Hemisphere players beware!!!
My main focus for this is bug-catching as I've had the most success with it, but I've also dabbled in some fishing and have a semi-decent routine for it. While fishing has fish that sell for more than a bug, it requires a lot of patience and bait. Bug-catching requires a tolerance for it, a lot of space, and a lot of flowers.
Bug-catching
Section off a large section of land on your island. I recommend putting it closer to the ocean than a river, and specifically on the first layer. Butterflies can and will fly across the river and onto another layer. You'll need a large area so you can spawn bugs more frequently; if it's too small it may not spawn as many bugs. If some of your area is off of the screen when you're in another section of the area, then it's good.
Collect as many flowers as you can. Personally, I collected all the flowers from my island and put them in this spot along with some random tour flowers. Place your flowers so that they each have a space in between them. Using this formation, it's easier to catch bugs on flowers without scaring them (and you can also hybrid breed at the same time).
During the day, I collect Peacock Butterflies (2,500 bells; only spawn when there's black flowers*, blue flowers*, &/or purple flowers*) and Orchid Mantis (2,400 bells; only found on white flowers).
At night, I collect Emperor Butterflies (4,000 bells) and Man-faced Stinkbugs (1,000 bells).
During both day and night, a Tiger Beetle (1,500 bells) may spawn; I always try to catch it if I see it.
*I don't know if this is true in this game anymore; I can't confirm or deny as I've had black flowers since day one due to random island luck
*sunchild confirmed that they can spawn around blue flowers
*Khaelis confirmed that they can spawn around purple flowers
It may take a while for bugs to spawn, especially if you're area isn't humongous. I usually just keep circling the area as I like to watch Youtube videos or something while doing this. If I haven't seen a bug in a long time, I'll go off and collect seashells from all of my beaches (at night you can find a Hermit Crab (which sells for 1,000 bells) instead of a shell) or enter and exit a building.
I recommend doing this at night more than during the day because there are more bugs that spawn during the day than at night. Since the Orchid Mantis and Peacock Butterfly require specific flowers, if you don't have a lot of them you won't have a lot of spawns. There's also the fact that Tiger Butterfly (240 bells), Common Butterfly (160 bells), Yellow Butterfly (160 bells), and Honeybee (200 bells) all spawn more frequently than Peacock Butterfly*. The flowers also experience the same traffic issue as the flying bugs; you can get regular Mantis (430 bells) and Ladybugs (200 bells) far more often than Orchid Mantis.
*May be flower dependent, but it is unknown at the time this guide was made.
At night you'll only get Tarantula* (8,000 bells), Emperor Butterfly, regular Stinkbug (120 bells), and Man-faced Stinkbug spawns. Even though these bugs may sell for less, they appear way more frequently so you'll get them faster and sell them faster, which means more bells in the long run (I think; I play Animal Crossing not Cool Math Games)
*Will just spawn randomly, but perhaps more frequently if you weed your entire first layer/layer your area is on, organize your trees, and put all your flowers into the area
I would advise anyone reading this to keep some materials and crafting bench close to your area for more nets because when you enter a building it resets the bug spawns, and sometimes you have a ton of bugs near you but your net just died.
Fishing
There's probably a better method for this, but I used this during my attempt at the 100 Fish in a Row Nook Miles Challenge and I got quite a lot of bells from it (didn't complete the challenge though).
You will need a lot of bait and fishing rods (depending on the amount of bait you've made). I usually farm clams until I can make 120 bait, and then make 4 fishing rods. If you have the patience for more, then you do you.
I park myself at the end of my pier like pictured*. With a fishing rod in hand, I toss my bait. Immediately after I toss the bait I cast my fishing rod. With the way the fish spawns in, they'll most likely go after the bobber right after it lands in the water. Some of the smaller fish (like the Sea Butterfly (1,000) and Barreleye) may require a repositioning to catch.
I close my eyes when fishing because I'm usually kinda dozing off before bed while doing it so I'm not listening to podcasts or anything. I'll keep my eyes open long enough to see if the fish goes after the bobber though, but sometimes if you're feeling a lil adventurous you can just shut your eyes right after and see where it goes from there (don't please).
I also recommend doing this at night more than the day because you can get better fish. You can get the Barreleye (15,000 bells; starting at 9pm, ending at 4am) and Football Fish (2,500 bells; starting at 4pm, ending at 9am). I also only use the pier because of how fast I can catch the fish because of positioning, and it has a better variety of big fish; Blue Marlin (10,000 bells) and Tuna (7,000 bells) can only be caught there, but you can still get the Oarfish (9,000 bells) (and Coelacanth (15,000 bells) if it's raining).

I'm not claiming my bell-making ways are the most efficient, they're just what I'm willing to do. Since I'm not the biggest fan of bug-catching or fishing in this game (decorating's cooler) these methods are the easiest to do while paying attention to other things.
I recommend bug-catching more since you can cull the bugs you don't want (if they're flower bugs) and it doesn't require grinding (or purchasing) materials to actually do it. You just pick up your net and start swingin'.
When doing either of these methods, along with the required items in my inventory, I keep a slingshot incase a present comes along.
also i'm sorry if this has any errors in it, or things don't make sense. i'm a bit tired while making this and i also capitalized stuff and it's just a difficult to make things that are easy to understand. i will answer any question. i also dont know how to get rid of this attached image
edit: thank u for the contributions as well!! we luv a supportive community
