I've only done this twice but it worked.
1) Shake down a tree and collect the 3 (local) fruits from it.
2) Write 3 letters to people.
3) Attach the fruits.
4) Mail (obviously).
It worked for me. I always get something I don't like (Carpet, Shirt. Can't remember which), good furniture, and a foreign fruit. A good tip is too plant the foreign fruit (to make more). If it doesn't work try asking one of the people (in the letter) to give you fruit. I don't know if it will make a diffirence.
