Most people may have figured this out already, probably a bit late to say, and definitely useless, but I'm pretty sure I know how Franklin got his name. When the founding fathers were deciding on the national bird, Benjamin Franklin wanted it to be the turkey, believing it to be "a much more respectable bird" and, "would not hesitate to attack a grenadier of the British guards". However, the bald eagle was chosen, which is ironic, considering that eagles were eaten on the first Thanksgiving.
