AC Clock/Time Question

Sorry for the title, I couldn't think of anything else.

I was thinking, if you stopped playing AC on (for example) June 20th, and started playing again on January 1st, but took your game card out of the slot on June 20th and never put it in until after changing the DS's clock to June 20th, would your game card recognise the time you didn't play?

In other words, does your game card track time internally, or does it just do it in relation to your device's clock?

for ACNL: I only time travel via the 3DS clock. so your scenario, my AC game plays as tho i had never left...

but, i know some people do use the ACNL options with Isabelle to time travel-- not sure of what differences that technique brings to bear...

Yeah your scenario would work even without taking the cartridge out, the game doesn't register time passing until you actually load it up.

I TT in-game and it works the same way, only difference is you have to actually load your town to save the new time (so less room for error)
