One of the things every Animal Crossing player tends to learn rather quickly is to never plant trees on adjacent tiles. But what if instead of dying, adjacent saplings would instead fuse into a single plant? Having the ability to create trees of differing shapes and sizes could really add variety to a town's layout.

2 saplings placed horizontally would create a tree with a fork in its trunk, pictured below. This would take up 2 tiles total. Keep in mind this is not how tree forks form in reality, but Animal Crossing is not exactly known for its portrayal of accurate botany. Even though it is a single plant, the 2 diverging trunks would be still be considered separate objects. This means that you could cut down one trunk, and the other would remain as a single slanted tree.

4 saplings placed together would create 1 massive tree, similar in appearance to one of the mid-stages of the town tree. This would take up 4 tiles, though most of this area could still be walked under. This tree would take 6 axe hits before being destroyed, instead of the normal 3.

Visual on what the forked tree would look like. Would obviously look much better in the actual game.

This fusion could also be applied to bushes. If a row of 2 or more bushes of the same species are planted next to each other, they should become indistinguishable from each other. Adjacent bushes of the same species but which were planted on different days will not fuse together, making this easily avoidable if the player does not desire it.
