Never used to, but now it loads up really really slowly (on the back screen with island icon in bottom right), then also takes ages with the “hold on just a sec, OK?” screen when checking mail. Is the slowness caused because my mailbox is full, or something else? I have a relatively well decorated island but definitely not cluttered and much more sparse decor than some other (albeit beautiful) islands I’ve seen!

And if it’s due to full mailbox I’ll delete some, but interested to know what mail others keep and which you throw out? I used to save anything I deemed important at the town hall, but not sure which to keep in my mailbox nowadays!

Please and thank you!!

Oh no worries this isn't caused by a cluttered island or a full mailbox, it's just caused by a slow internet connection. :) It's trying to connect to the internet before loading up the game and loading the inbox and failing to do so. You can fix this by putting your switch in flight mode or moving closer to the router

Oh thank you, this makes so much sense!! And recently I got rid of WiFi and just use mobile hotspot, so I’ll bet that’s why! Don’t really mind now I know why, as it’s not like it’s often I have to wait, just reassured that it’s not my island making things run slow! Thanks so much :D

Yeah I had this happen to me a while back this year when my internet went down due to a storm or something. I could get to the main menu, but getting to Isabelle's announcements was not possible. Or rather I wasn't patient enough and I was being pretty dang patient. Like the poster above said just take it on flight mode. It really is a stupid way to do things because not everyone has internet or the chance to always have it so it's taking the game and experience out of many people's hands when they don't have anyone to help them troubleshoot the situation.
