Ouf! I guess I was lucky. I went to my upper pond with only 5 bait and optimism and got it on the fourth try.

From what it seems it's either hit or miss, I've been hearing stories of people finding these rare fish without even really hunting them. Then you have the people are making all this bait to no luck what so ever. Congratulations on the catch though!

god 80 bait? crazy. i caught the stringfish by chance but the golden trout might actually kill me lmao

String fish and golden trout? Are these only found in ponds?

My companion guide hasnt come yet so I have no idea what fish are available to me this month lol

i don’t remember the stringfish’s location but i believe it’s a river fish. the golden trout is also a river fish but you can only catch it from rivers on the cliff

Lucky me, I was running around the cliffs collecting emperor butterflies and fish for bells, and I caught it by surprise.

It's in the clifftop rivers.

I'm pretty sure I found it but my trigger happy fingers let it slip through them :( Have to craft some more bait now

My question is, how did you manage to sit there and craft 50 bait? I get so bored, one at a time... Ugh

The best advice I can offer is to play by sound, and not by sight. Listen for the splash sound, and if it helps, close your eyes, or turn your attention to something else in the room.

I'm still crafting bait for the Sturgeon. Caught a Stringfish after maybe 10 mins of seriously looking, have an Oarfish, have a Coelacanth, but the sturgeon evades me and disappears after this month...

Good luck to everyone trying for a specific fish! We'll get it in the end.

Yeah, I crafted 30 bait for the Char, and it was a chore.

You catch a barreleye fish yet? IMO, it's more rare than the Sturgeon, Coelacanth and Orefish combined

Not yet, but honestly I haven't been looking very hard. I usually go to bed around 10pm and Barreleye's time frame is kinda hard to work into my schedule. Luckily its available all year, so I'll try and pull an all nighter at some point to search for it.

I'll usually chat with friends while I'll mindless collect Clams and button mash through the crafting.

I need the stringfish myself. I feel confident in it. Last night I was fishing off of the dock. I got 2 Barreleyes, 3 Tunas, an Oarfish, and 2 Blue Marlins (plus other fish), with only about 45 baits. I had good luck, but what was really nice was how quick that was compared to walking up and down the beach waiting for a spawn. It only took me maybe 30 minutes to use all 45 bait.

If you tap A during the crafting animation, it goes faster! I found this out yesterday!

So what's the strategy behind using bait? I just throw mine off the dock and catch whatever. Am I doing it wrong?
