Here is something for people who are unhappy with their town map.
I used this on my 2nd game.

This is what I did that helped me to STOP the resetting because I was unhappy with my town map!
It took me a little bit of time to do but it seemed to work really well.

I planned out what I wanted to do with my town right after I picked out a map I wanted.

How did I do it? I used Excell to map out my town. I spent a couple of nights doing this on my new town before any new residents moved in. I used the pixel pictures from that site that everyone seems to be getting them from to use as markers for where buildings sit etc.

Once I had done all this I realised that one of the problems is that people don't really know how much room they have to put things. When you play the game its hard to see how close or how far things may seem compared to other things/residents houses/trees and so on. Sometimes things get cluttered out of view because of the way we arrange trees or bushes.

when looking at my excell map I was able to see that I could put things in a nice order or know exactly how far or how close to the cliff things would end up. What PWP's to put where in my orchard to stop townies from moving in on top of it and so on. I was even able to plan out all my town paths - including ones going to special places. On top of that I could also put in where I wanted to plant future trees and future bushes. (as well as flowers if I wanted to).

When I get time later on I will post up some pictures just in case I have sounded confusing or you are wondering what it all looked like to do it yourself.

It doesn't sound confusing at all; it's just hard to do that's all >.<

I'll be waiting for the picture :>

This is kinda what I did :D
The first thing I would do was walking around town and placing patterns everywhere to see whether there's enough space for pwps where I wanted them to be or not.

If you want to go and see a bigger picture with a bit more detail, this is my Facebook New Leaf

Not sure if this works (and if it does it might be preeeety big) but this is my map :)

The pink boxes are where I have put my paths. The grey things are either cobble stones on the ground where I can't put any PWP's or bridges (or where I want to put a bridge if its out in the middle of the blue water. I haven't done all the beach because nothing really goes there except for trees.

wow! that looks like it took a lot of work!

I like the idea, though. I just wish there was a quicker way to map out a town...

I assume each cell on the sheet is one space on the map? How did you work out exactly where everything is?

Well I started digging some holes and used flowers and patterns and local trees etc. I started in the top left corner because there is the cliff corner and it made an easy place to start from.

It did take a little bit of time, maybe about 3-5 hours (not really dedicated only to doing this though) but it was really worth it because I now I can see and plan everything properly.

OMG that would take me like a year to make. Definitely for extreme perfectionists for sure!

Glad you're happy with your towns map now :)

This is interesting! I usually just eyeballed everything but maybe I'll do this if I ever plan on making a new town. :>

Thats what I thought! But I gave it a go, really it wasn't that hard because so much of it is just empty space. I think the hardest part is working out the edges of things like rivers and cobble stones. Otherwise Its pretty much empty space (as you can see).

I wouldn't even know where to start with that :(

Step 1. Open your Excell or your Downloaded free Excell Program.
Step 2. Start New leaf
Step 3. Start in the top corner where your train tracks and cliff meet.
Step 4. Win.

I actually done this a few days ago with a section of my town after having a domestic with Isabelle. I have a campground lined with hedges and the river, and wanted all the camping type PWP, the police station and a spare chars tent to be in that space. But Isabelle was being so difficult I worked out all the dimensions and how close everything could be with other PWP/bridges, then coloured in cells to plan their placements and find a way to not overlap everything.
Took about an hour and a billion different scenarios before I accepted that I'd always be 1 overlapping corner out and needed to give up a pwp. 3:

Everything was much easier to see and plan on Excel though and now I don't have to fight with Prissy for hours. Straight there, place pwp, back to moping in your office.

Only thing is, I actually tried to plan this much for my towns layout to begin with and I still couldn't have a bridge where I wanted. So you do still have to cross your fingers and hope a bit.

I actually did this when I was still playing city folk, so I could get a perfect town. It was a bit of work, but it paid off quickly. I really wish I would have thought to do this for new leaf >___< such a good idea!
