Welcome to my fifth amiibo Review! You know the drill! First off, a brief history behind the character and next, I'll review its amiibo by 3 factors: presentation, usefulness and accessibility as of now. Looks like we will be tackling on Sheik!
Sheik is about to ninja'd someone.
A little bit of history...
Sheik first appeared in The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time, an arguably phenomenal Nintendo 64 title that was released in 1998 and set the bar for many 3D games to come. She claims to be the last member of the Sheikah tribe and teaches Link songs useful for many given situations. Afterwards, she disappears. Later in the game, it is revealed the Sheik is an alter-ego of Princess Zelda, so the latter can completely get away from Ganondorf by getting rid all of her traces.
Presentation
Just look at her pose! She looks like she's ready to rumble. Well, actually, ninja-ing someone. But still, that's pretty cool! It also conveys her nimbleness, which leads to my self-proclaimed radical photo down below.
Due to the nature of her pose, she required a stand to prevent her from falling off and grant more durability. Unlike some amiibo, this one doesn't distract you much from the main attraction.
Sheik is quite a challenging amiibo to mass-produce due of being thin and has a lot of details in first place, yet they managed to pull off the feat very successfully. Even the hands are well-done, considering on how frigging small they really are. Outside of her banana-yellow hair, which should've been more brownish, this amiibo is well-done!
Usefulness
It's no surprise to see Sheik being compatible in a lot of games despite actually having one game that stars her as one of the main characters in the entire The Legend of Zelda franchise. Of course, most Mario characters have small advantage over him in terms of cross-compatibility, but there's a good chance her amiibo will used in future games, more specifically in Zelda franchise. Heck, even the upcoming game from that series was announced to be supporting amiibo. Sometimes, her compatibility can be shared with Zelda depending on the supported games.
List of compatible games that Read-Write this amiibo's memory:
- Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U : Use her as a CPU-controlled Smash Fighter and level up to 50.
List of compatible games that only read this amiibo:
- Hyrule Warriors : Use her to unlock a weapon above level 3, materials for crafting or even up to 50,000 rupees.
- Captain Toad: Treasure Tracker : Use her to gain a 1-UP mushroom once per day.
- ACE COMBAT Assault Horizon Legacy+ : Use her to unlock aircraft F-15SE that is themed after Zelda/Sheik.
- amiibo Tap: Nintendo's Greatest Bits : Use her to let you play a few "scenes" from NES and SNES titles.
- Yoshi's Woolly World: Unlock a Yoshi design based on the character.
Accessibility
If you want to get a Sheik amiibo at the MSRP of $12.99 USD, you might have to venture on every store close to you before resorting to online shopping. Either way, don't expect finding her on the first store you'll visit. Definitely worth trying to locate one for yourself, though.
Final verdict
For fans of The Legend of Zelda, Sheik comes across as a highly-recommended amiibo, while everyone else wouldn't do wrong by buying her. Her presentation is certainly no slouch, while the compatibility here is fairly reasonable for a character that appeared in very few games. With some effort, you can track her down soon for a good price, provided you aren't reading this review from a distant future.
Recommendation: GET IT!
