Welcome to my ninth amiibo Review! I'll highlight the context behind the character, then I'll review its amiibo based on 3 factors: its presentation, its usefulness and its accessibility as of now. King Dedede, the self-proclaimed king of Dream Land is our today's amiibo.

Dapper Dream Duck!

A little bit of context...

King Dedede originally appeared at the same time as Kirby did in a 1992 Game Boy game called Kirby's Dream Land, and always has appeared in every installment in the franchise. Unlike many other Nintendo villains, Dedede isn't really actually one of them. Sure, there are times where he threatens his arch-enemy Kirby with his trusty large wooden hammer. But in reality, he is striving for his greediness and selfishness rather than being outright evil, as sometimes seen joining with Kirby to accomplish his goals and even competingwith him in a variety of mini-games.

Presentation

At first, it might sound like a foolish idea to spend money on this hard-to-find amiibo, and you may be right to some extent, which is explained later in the review. One glance at this amiibo from every angle is simply enough to tell that it has to be part of the best looking in the bunch. They got every visual aspect right from A to Z, from top to bottom. They even done a tremendously great job on the finer details for a cartoony character. This contrasts with Kirby, who is a much simpler character by design. The pose for this penguin is so conveniently chosen that he didn't needed any sort of stand. Dedede never looked this much ready and proud to have such a smashing time with his peers. And as a added bonus, he's pretty much the heaviest amiibo in the Smash line, even compared to Bowser! I have nothing but anything good to say at this one. For the presentation alone, this one is absolutely worth trying to get.

Usefulness

King Dedede's cross-compatibility is average for sure, but somewhat better than any of the Pokémon amiibo for some weird reason. It's not surprising to hear that since he gained a lesser recognition than the main protagonist Kirby. The only redeeming factor that he has over everyone else is from one game called Kirby and the Rainbow Curse, where he gives 2 extra hit points and his iconic hat for Kirby to wear. But that's pretty much it. Nothing else than the usual suspects, unless a new Kirby game comes in and take advantage of him.

List of compatible games that Read-Write this amiibo's memory:

- Super Smash Bros. for 3DS/Wii U : Use him as a CPU-controlled Smash Fighter and level him up to 50.

Accessibility

Unfortunately for King Dedede, he is one of the many amiibo that are extremely difficult to claim regardless where you live. If you want to get him, you will definitely need to pay much more attention to the future restocks if you aren't wiling to pay extra from a scalper or get lucky enough to find one at store. This includes regularly checking CPSIA website (North America), following AmiiboNews's Twitter account, regularly checking /r/Amiibo (or /r/AmiiboCanada if you're from Canada), regularly checking your favorite online retailers Twitter/Facebook accounts and be ready as soon they update their stock. If you're unfortunately at work, ask a friend of yours to have him order the amiibo. And if you manage to have him shipped to your home, well done! If you're unable to get him, don't worry too much about that, since his cross-compatibility is rather average at best.

Final verdict

King Dedede's awesome and exemplary presentation automatically makes him a worthy purchase whenever the opportunity arises. It will be easy if you're very dedicated to find him even if the odds are heavily stacked against you. Bear into mind that his cross-compatibility is so-so at best compared to most amiibo.

Recommendation: GET IT!
