Animal Crossing New Horizons x Uniqlo Collab

Didn't see anyone talking about this so far so I thought I would share.

Uniqlo is doing an AC collab featuring some adult and kids shirts, as well as some tote bags and towels. They also have creator codes for the shirts in-game and a Uniqlo island dream address! I haven't visited the dream yet but I will probably check it out later. As for the clothes I think they are pretty cute!

I've linked to the US website/info page but I did see this advertised by Uniqlo Canada as well, so it seems like Canada should be getting it? But it doesn't seem to be currently on the Canadian website yet (or at least I couldn't find it).

The shirts are cute but personally I’m tired of seeing acnh merch. It’s almost always the same characters, the same designs, color schemes.

Yeah, I saw that earlier on Twitter. I like more of the men's shirts but I'm not sure if I'll get one.

It's launched in Europe and it looks like some of the designs have sold out already. I'm hoping for a restock of the washed-up Gulliver towel.

I’m not a fan of the Animal Crossing shirts personally. As @Licorice said, it’s always the same characters being used. There are lesser known characters that actual Animal Crossing fans love. If I’m being honest, I feel like people would wear these shirts and they don’t know a single thing about the game, and just want to wear it because it’s popular. This happened with Pokémon Go. People haven’t even played the game before and even saw Pokémon Go as a kid’s game, but were quick to jump on the Pokémon bandwagon.

These shirts aren’t really my style, so I won’t be getting them. I do think some of them look nice, however. I like the DAL Tee.

I was excited for this initially when I heard about it but after looking at what they came up with I don’t know if I’ll be buying anything. The designs are so simple, nothing we haven’t seen before. To be honest, I’ve seen more creative fan-made clothing than that and I think I’d rather have those designs instead.

It was listed yesterday when the collection launched, but by the time I saw it there were no sizes available, and it's not showing at all for me today. I was still able to add it to my wishlist yesterday so hopefully I'll be notified if/when it's back.
I had wanted the Gulliver towel but only the DAL one was listed yesterday, and I've noticed that listings for different bags keep coming and going, so maybe their site is just wonky..?

ETA: I should say I was using the IRL site, but I was checking the other EU storefronts (as I believe they all ship from the one warehouse), and it was very much the case with a lot of those sites that the shirt was listed, just that it was sold out/no sizes available.

I feel like Uniqlo is always pretty simple as a brand so the collection is about what I expected but I'm curious where you see this fan made merch? I am pretty in the dark when it comes to knowing where to look for stuff online.

There's loads of small shops out there that sell cool AC stuff! I've found some on Tik Tok and Instagram- most of them have Etsy shops so searching through Etsy is a great place to start. As for specific shops I really like (can't attest to quality but the designs are cool) Threads and Thistles has some subtle/minimalist AC clothing, Clammy Heart has great AC cardigans/sweatshirts/hats and other stuff. There's so many shops out there making embroidered shirts/sweatshirts too. So going through sites like Redbubble, Etsy, etc you'll be able to find a lot of stuff that's cute and fanmade. I have loads of AC stuff I've bought after stumbling across them online!

Same that's why I prefer fan art merch although uniqlo has really nice stuff!

If I could get my hands on some of these merch here, I'd do it. Some designs are adorable- I'd commit bad acts in order to get that Gulliver towel and/or the DAL tee.

I like the Celeste shirt because it's embroidered and subtle. I think most the other designs draw too much attention in a way that's not really my style.

I mean, you're entitled to your opinions and all, but that feels awfully judgy... I agree it's a lot of the same characters, but why wouldn't they focus on popular characters? Almost all games have iconic characters they're gonna focus on to attract the widest possible audience, and plenty of fans are still gonna love seeing them. I'm a huge Animal Crossing fan and I wore my K.K. Slider t-shirt today to show my love for the game. Even if someone hasn't played the game and just likes the design, what's the harm in them wearing it?

Sorry if it seems like I'm picking on you, I'm not, I just don't understand the idea (and you are most definitely not the only one I've seen express it) that companies need to appeal to "true" fans by using the less popular/common characters. I mean, sure, I'd love to see a Tangy shirt! But I'll happily wear my K.K. Slider one in the meantime.

Anyway, I think the designs look cute- though I've never heard of the brand before. My only issue with video games shirts is that it's hard to find cute ones in plus-sizes. Even my K.K. Slider shirt I had to have tailored because it was absurdly long (like, I could've worn it as a dress, and I'm pretty tall- the proportions were bizarre)

I love Uniqlo, so I'll probably get one of the shirts. I usually try to get the Nintendo ones when they're available.

The style is kind of too simplistic for me, I like wearing graphic t-shirts where the whole front or back is used. There are some neat ones though, like the turnip and character faces one. It's still cool though and great for those that like to show off their love of the game without it being screamed from the rooftops haha.
