anime suggestions?

heyyo
ok i know nothing about anime but i need some help picking a present for a friend who likes it - im looking for lesser known anime of all genres; primarily romance, action, mystery..
bonus points for it being sad

it also has to be a good anime haha, gimme your overal rates

they've already seen most of the popular animes such as haikyuu, nisekoi, kaichu wa maid sama (???) so i'm trying to find an anime which isn't too well known!!

Hmm lesser known anime...
here's some that might fit your criteria
-Blue exorcist (action)
-Akagami no Shirayukihime (very romance)
-Another (Mystery, Horror, some action)
-Kyokai no Kanata (Ok this is sort of well-known, but not mainstream... but it's RLLY good)
-Special A (Romance)
-Zankyou no Terror (Action)
-Ore Monogatari (Unique...Romance)

To my knowledge, these aren't too well known. A couple kind of are, but I don't really see too many people talk about them.
