Any easy ways to map out my new island?

In NL after numerous paper versions I ended up mapping out my town in paint with a grid manually by walking around edges, using shovel holes for clarification on uneven bits as to which were counted as full squares and which weren't. Just wondering if nowadays there's any easier methods, like maybe some wonderful program that's been invented that maps everything out for you?? Haha okay I'm being overly optimistic, I know - but would at least be helpful to see how others map out their NH islands and maybe get some ideas! Please and thanks :)

I tried the 'paint' method yesterday and I just couldn't do it anymore because I could make a vague representation of my map, but not 100% accurate, so I just decided to wait until I actually unlock the feature

Unlock what feature, sorry? Is there some sort of mapping feature that becomes unlocked then?? Just to clarify I know in a bit I'll unlock the thing where I can edit terrain (can't wait!!) but hadn't heard of any sort of mapping tool? Cheers :D

Thanks that looks great! Is is possible to download the map to edit offline I wonder? Worry about losing everything I've done if it's online based - but essentially exactly what I'm looking for, cheers :)

Any tips on making sure I get my map exactly lined up as it should be? As obviously it creates a random map and I'll be working to change it into my own map. Please and thanks - and found a way to save image :)

in the top left corner where you see 3 horizontal lines, you can click on that and find a "save" button that'll download the map as a png :> or you can use ctrl+s to save it too!

edit: as for downloading the program to make edits with it offline, I don't think that's possible, I think it's browser-based only ;o;

I'm not sure how accurate it is in measurements, but since the map maker includes the same type of grid as the map in the game, i suggest trying to use that as a guideline! you know that kind of art project where you're told to draw a grid over an image so that you can reference it when you draw the same image but larger? think of it kinda like that!
