Anyone else a little confused about lots?

I've put different houses in the same lot place, it just doesn't matter?
Also the season, if I make it winter in a lot will it change to spring in a certain amount of in-game days?

As far as I'm aware, the season you choose for a lot never changes. You can even keep using the same lot and choose a different season each time, but the season will always be the same one you choose for the customer in question, even though you chose the same lot.

Putting more than one house in the same lot doesn't overwrite another house that's already there. You could put every house you made in the same spot and they'd all still be there when you go to visit them.

I saw a house on the hhn that used that lot brilliantly- sort of a post-apocalyptic thing going on.
But yeah, that one's tricky.

I find those smaller lots perfect when someone asks for a theme I find tiresome or it's a villager I'm not that into, or if I'm blanking on what to do for them. I can always change the lot later through a re-design if I want.

You can change the season if you want to later in the game. Once Lyle goes upstairs he gives you a lot of tips.
Someone just posted that you can tap on the house and it will change season. I haven't tried it yet.
I need to go back and fix a clients season.

That's actually a great use for that plot. I never thought of making it for a hotsprings. Whenever I see the plot I'm just kind of like who in the world would like to live there.

I like designing the inside of houses, but I'm sooo bad at the yards. Aside from some trees and the ocassional bench, I blank out on what to do.
