Anyone getting the japanese version?

I know it sounds like an off-the-wall question, especially since the american version is coming out BEFORE the japanese version, but the only reason why I ask is because apparently it's possible this time to play with someone who has the japanese version. This, in turn, makes it the only way you can participate in the japanese holiday events.

Don't hold me to that, though, as I'm not sure if this is true or not.
