Relax, there are still many many many people who play Animal Crossing.
People who play this game for years but also people who just started to play the game like you. And until the release of Animal Crossing on the Switch it will be stay that way. And even than, not everyone will leave New Leaf when the Switch version is released. I will add your FC, I play a lot, so it wouldn't very hard to meet each other in game. I play mostly with my gates open, and when they are open, everyone is welcome to visit. If they are not open, I am on the Island or visiting other towns.
I do have 2 rules!!! No running and no shaking trees!!! There is always (all) fruit near my station if you need some. But feel free to explore my town Floriade, talk to my neighbours, buy items, catch bugs and fish or join events. And if you need something just ask, I am always willing to help.
