Are the amiibo cards region locked?

I know there is a question thread but I thought I would make it a separate post instead, and if it helps anyone else out. I was wondering if anyone actually read anything about these cards being region locked? I know people say "I doubt it since the amiibo figures aren't", but when I contacted Nintendo again specifically wanting an answer regarding the cards and not figures, I was told I had to call them and my question could not be discussed via e-mail. {and unfortunately when I call it won't connect}

I've never had any amiibos before, but I'd just like to figure out wether or not the Japanese cards I got will even work now, and I'm sure a lot of other people would like to know as well >.<

That's how most people see it, including me. Nintendo was very clear it on it but them saying they can't answer regarding the cards over e-mail makes me wonder why I'd need to call unless it wasn't certain? I just got half the japanese series 1 cards, so I'd hate to find out when I play that Nintendo actually made the cards region locked for some bizarre reason

Thank you!! Seeing that makes me feel so much better. If I ever get through to Nintendo I'll add to this post but happy to see it more than likely is region free than
