october 9th is the last day to register in some US states for the november 6th midterm elections.
are you registered yet? it's also worth checking if you are still registered.
go to vote.org or headcount.org to register.
check here & here for a state by state rundown of registration deadlines.
I'm sure most people here are woke, but hopefully this helps someone not miss the deadline.
happy voting

if you're not voting, please don't reply things like "it's not worth to vote" "it doesn't matter if i vote or not" just don't reply then. if you're not voting for yourself, vote for all the oppressed people in the US.

Yep, and I'm just about ready to decide who to vote for.

To people that don't vote because there isn't a candidate they really like, remember that in some countries people don't even have the right to vote. In some countries, certain genders or ethnic groups don't have a right to vote. In the U.S., a lot of people fought really hard to have the right to vote and we've come a long way in just 60 years.

Look into candidates before casting judgement that it is useless. If there really isn't someone you like, vote blank. Voting blank shows that people are upset and these blanks will not go unnoticed.

sent the form in this morning, which hopefully will be ready and good by midterms

honestly meant to do it far sooner, but I've not been able to get anyone to take me in to get a new id, which I wanted to do first before registering. so hopefully I'll be able to vote with some other form of identity confirmation

though that said, speaking personally, and while I still intend to vote despite that, right now I see a democratic turnover being like a 5% of a 5% chance

5% chance that there is a turnover, where within that 5% chance, there's another 5% chance that the republican party doesn't just try to declare the wins illegitimate (which would be a riot if they weren't just straight-up nakedly fascist at this point, given the current still questionable nature of the 2016 elections)

but yeah, likely no way I'm going to be able to convince anyone to at this point, but please register to vote if you haven't already, and honestly just vote straight democrat. yes, there might be policies and such you don't agree with, but at this point rooting out fascism should take precedence over anything else. especially since if this fails, imo the chance of bloodshed being the only way out becomes catastrophically higher. after that, we can go back to voting based on policies and actions, once the parties are back to both intending to work for the people in differing ways, instead of their own interests. maybe we can even start to push for a system that isn't just this insanely flawed basically 2-party one. unlikely, but hey

That?s not true, at least for the house. Normally, the party in power tends to lose seats, especially if they did something that?s very unpopular among many. You see, the Republicans confirmed Kavanaugh in the Court, which is a conservative pick in replacement of a moderate justice. Many people don?t like that, especially since there?s a possibility that Roe v Wade will be overturned. In fact, recent polls shown that the Democrats are more likely to win the house now since Kavanaugh got confirmed.

Anyway, I already have decided who I?m gonna vote for, but I?m not basing my decisions on the US Congress. I?m basing it on Texas, the state I live in.

My state's deadline isn't today, so I still have more time.

I wasn't planning to register to vote. You guys probably don't realize it, but there actually is a privacy-related downside to registering to vote. Your name plus address gets put out there as part of public record. It's not like it's super easy to access, but it's there. I can also tell you that you will get a lot of political junk mail as a result of registering. I have experienced that before.

But I'm thinking about it. I'm a minority in my state. Not racially or anything, but from a political beliefs perspective. So my vote actually has more impact than random majority voter in my state. But also, I am really upset with how politics have been going. I'm not talking about Republicans specifically. There's problems on both sides of the aisle. I feel like both major US parties have gotten way too extreme.

I don't live in the US, and I don't have to register to be able to vote in my country.

I just came here to say: GO VOTE!
You should not leave all the power to make decisions to other people just because you didn't bother to make an effort.

Really? I was told Brett Kavanaugh's confirmation would be boon for the Republicans in the midterms.
Anyways, yes, my high school had us all register before we graduated, and I do plan on voting. I'm currently in Mississippi going to college though, so I'll need to complete an absentee ballot application before I vote.

I'm not from the US either, but I'm registered to vote. Probably one of the main reasons I registered as the elections organisation came through to my school and did a presentation. They handed out forms for everyone to fill out to be registered to vote. I don't know if I would've bothered to register if they hadn't have come through. Or rather I would've but probably much later.

But yeah, go vote! It isn't gonna do you any harm :)

I have been registered for years and I am definitely planning on voting in November because I definitely feel it is my civil obligation to do so. Even though I am a Christian, I try to keep my moral and political views separate since we live in a free country that is composed of a diverse populous unless something comes up that violates my religious rights under The Constitution. To those who say vote straight party ticket, that is absolutely foolish since that would exclude moderate candidates of the other major party (I voted a Democratic candidate before because I agreed with their message last election) or exclude more-qualified candidates for the position up for election. Voting to any extreme is bad, our country would be far better off with moderate politicians (Libertarian-like) who make decisions based upon logic and reason. I feel that recently our country has been all about taking sides instead of us seeing each other as Americans and try to compromise/reason with each other. I usually vote Republican only because I agree with most of their views like conservative-principled economics, smaller government (which it turn gives more power to the states), gun rights, women's right (Republicans are for women's rights believe it or not), support of our military, etc.. I do however agree with certain Democrat policies politically like net neutrality (our world is too reliant on the internet to be held back by nonsense), gay marriage, and abortion (even though I do not agree with the latter 2 morally, we are in a free country and government should not have a say in moral matters that do not violate Common Moral Human Laws [like do not murder {some can argue that abortion is murder, but I only think it should be legal because of the latter part of this parenthesized part} or steal for example]. Plus, legalizing abortion protects women from illegal operations that can cause immense harm to their health). I only am mentioning some of my political views only to show that I am speaking as a moderate and not some person who aligns with 1 particular party. To those who are voting for the first time this November, I highly encourage all of you to research candidates and hear all sides of the arguments before making a choice voting because many politicians are using ignorant people to buy votes and continue agendas that do not improve the situation of our nation! Please choose wisely!

When it comes to the Kavanaugh situation, people need to realize that if the Democrats had succeeded in their plans, half the population would have been set up to be screwed over by twisted women who would lie in a heart beat to ruin a man's life (probably sounds insane for me to say that, but there are really messed up people out there) which would actually cause gender inequality instead of equality and it also would have jeopardized the fundamental principle of our justice system: Due Process (innocent until proven guilty). Also, it is absolutely scandalous and sickening that a brave victim of sexual assault was used and a person's life & reputation was dragged in the mud by politicians to advance their agenda instead of respecting the wishes of confidentiality by the victim and retaining integrity on the investigation of the alleged accusation. I have no doubt that Dr. Ford had been sexually assaulted in the past, but the possibility that Kavanaugh is the assaulter is highly questionable due to the lack of solid evidence in my honest opinion.

I agree we should steer clear of the extremes in politics, but I don’t want the Democrats taking back Congress this fall. Not only they sold their souls to socialism (which is something I will NEVER adapt to), but they have been very discriminatory towards whites, Christians, and conservatives. I am not going to live in a country where I legally owe dues because of being “privileged”. I am not going to accept that race is the reason behind anything (such as why people put up a Kate Steinle vigil), unless if there’s truly racial discrimination or racial profiling. The left wing is basically trying to send us back to the days of the Roman Empire. I’m also concerned with how Facebook, Google, and Twitter are discriminating against conservatives and are lying about it, and how left-wingers in general became more violent and less civil. If the Democrats condemn all this and oppose the radical leftist agenda (such as socialism and political correctness), I’ll be fine with them taking back Congress. But right now is not the time.

Oh, and for the Kavanaugh drama, as well as how the Senate handled Gorsuch, Sotomayor, Kagan, and Alito, I see a Scar/Mufasa relationship between both parties.

kavanaugh being a potential attempted rapist shouldn't even matter and his nomination should've been voided solely based on his other easily provable lies and temperament during his nomination hearing. irregardless of party affiliation

also, innocent until proven guilty doesn't just mean believing the accused is innocent of their supposed crime, but also that the accuser is innocent of telling the truth. which given the absolute farce of an fbi investigation whereas the fbi was barred from investigating into anyone or anything that supposedly had details on kavanaugh's alleged sexual harassment, there clearly wasn't any intent to find the truth, but only to use the "investigation" as a mask to hide behind

like I'm not gonna claim to know with certainty if he is or isn't guilty of any sex crimes, but crap such as this and the conveniently timed letter attesting to his innocence would certainly make me bet on his guilt if I was forced to choose. since innocent people don't need to get **** like this pulled to prove their innocence

though honestly, the entire supreme court system should just be abolished outright

and socialism already exists in america.... for the rich

Definitely registered to vote. There's a lot I'd like to say in response to some others but I have an exam later today for human anatomy I need to finish studying for... so I'll be back!

I completely agree with you Alolan. The left unfortunately has been all about dividing us instead of uniting the American people by becoming more extreme. What they have done lately has been shameful and the Founding Fathers definitely would not be pleased. If any Democrats should be elected, it should be moderate ones that are willing to work on both sides.

Let me ask you something Lamda before I hear more of your side of your argument. Lets say we are in a world where anyone can claim sexual assault regardless of gender and ruin someone's life. How would you feel if you were given the opportunity and privilege to be in a very powerful position and someone falsely accused you of sexual assault/rape/misconduct and you suddenly got your life ruined and you were screwed out of the position you hope you were getting even though you know for a fact you are innocent? To me, situations like this is why we should continue to observe Due Process and protect the innocent in our legal system.

Also, abolishing the Supreme Court will only lead to disaster since the checks and balances system put in place at the beginning in our Constitution was done for a reason. There are different areas of the government in order for power of the government to stay in balance. This why a President simply can't gain complete control of the government for example. The Supreme Court traditionally has not been partisan and they interpret laws to deem if it is Constitutional or not.

When it comes to the idea of Socialism in America, yes it does exist, but not where you say it is occurring. Our Welfare and Public School systems/programs are examples of Socialism since they give qualified people equal treatment per say and they are on the Taxpayer's dime/money as well (you cannot have Socialism without funding from taxes). The rich are not rich because of Socialism though, they are rich because they worked for it or they used the legal system to their advantage to get ahead.

wow, it's almost like this is a complete deflective non-argument that completely ignores the existence of abusive power dynamics. also, not getting on the supreme court being "life ruining" is honestly laughable

wow, good thing if I was innocent I could request an open and thorough investigation to clear my name

innocent=powerful, got it

good thing the checks and balances haven't already p much completely failed then /s

This why a President simply can't gain complete control of the government for example.

wow, with how much the republicans have been bending over backwards for trump, they could've fooled me

The Supreme Court traditionally has not been partisan and they interpret laws to deem if it is Constitutional or not.

ideally, yes. which is clearly why the republicans rammed through a hyperpartisan judge who was the only one in the listing that essentially said the president is free of any crimes committed ever

(you cannot have Socialism without funding from taxes)
so what does a tax break to siphon more money away from the poor and towards the rich count as?

The rich are not rich because of Socialism though, they are rich because they worked for it or they used the legal system to their advantage to get ahead.
getting rich is always done through the exploitation of others. there is literally no such thing as "earned" wealth, and nobody needs such an obscene amount of money to begin with. the rich are parasites, and their "contributions" to society would be endlessly better if they were forced to use their wealth for reasons other than lining their own pockets or inflating their own personal ego

tl;dr tax the **** out of the rich. lifetime non-bail/paroleable prison sentence for any ****ers that try to evade with tax shelters or the like

and I never said that they are rich because of socialism, but that they have socialism because they're rich

I honestly believe Kavanaugh was a poor choice for a nominee simply based on how he led the Starr investigation into Bill Clinton's presidency twenty years ago. He just seemed to be such a partisan choice.

flashback to republicans invoking the mythical "biden rule" near an election cycle to block obama's nominee, meanwhile forcing trump's through right before midterms while there's an ongoing criminal investigation into his campaign trail and business ties

kavanaugh's #1 purpose is to protect trump when the investigation comes to a head, and by extent anyone else in the party that has kowtowed to him. being able to dismantle civil and social liberties for the next generation or so is just a bonus that they could've gotten with plenty of other, far easier to push through, judges

also, not putting it past them to potentially use the courts to protect cheating of their party or to criminalize wins for the opposition

and I never said that they are rich because of socialism, but that they have socialism because they're rich

For your first point, ruining someone's life has nothing to do with the fact they do not get a position (it may have an effect on their professional life, but not a complete ruining on one's life). In Kavanaugh's case, he would just continue being the D.C. Circuit Judge. Ruining someone's life revolves around their reputation and endangering their safety and the ones they love. In Kavanaugh's case, his family was attacked by death threats and his reputation was questioned regardless of his professional & personal record being relatively stellar amongst those who knew him. I think another thing you are forgetting in the Kavanaugh scenario is that even Dr. Ford's life got ruined too because the very same politicians attacking Kavanaugh completely disregarded her wishes of remaining confidential. As Dr. Ford being a sexual assault victim clearly at some point in her life, her privacy should have been respected and it is absolutely sickening that it was not.

For your second and third point, yes being innocent until proven guilty is definitely a powerful thing and it has protected many innocent, good people from false accusations. Being able to have a just legal system that thoroughly investigates things before making conclusions is a very a good thing and we all should be thankful that we have that to protect us.

For your fourth and fifth point, the checks and balances system has not failed yet. Heck even with Obama being office with a Democratic majority he still could not get all things he planned done because he was unable to have complete control due to a lot of people not agreeing with various aspects of his plans. Also, remember there was a time that even some Republicans were against Trump too, but people voted out many of his opponents and only recently have Republicans tried to work with him (along with moderate Democrats/Independents).

For your sixth point, I am unsure if that is true or not, but I will be glad to look into your claim though. ;)

For your seventh and eighth point, that is actually a case of the rich exploiting the system to their advantage which I do see as wrong by the way (& it is not Socialism!). I think the best solution for our tax system is a flat rate tax so it is very fair based upon proportions. Sure some rich people do exploit people, but not all do. There are many great people who are rich for doing what is right as well.

I am glad we are able to have the freedom to discuss our differences Lamda and I definitely encourage you to research like I do on matters because knowing all sides of a matter is a very good thing (knowing the why factor of logic & reason). :)

I think moderates are better for both sides. Believe it or not, Obamacare or even Romneycare are quite radical. And so would repealing the welfare programs started by Roosevelt, Kennedy, and Johnson. But I don?t know if moderates can survive today. For the Democrats, their newer supporters are left-wing extremists, so it would be hard for a moderate to get into the Democratic Party. For the Republicans, it?s either they support Trump or not be in the party at all. This is why Corker and Flake are leaving. Time will settle this one out, and eventually, we?ll both be together again. But in order for that to happen, all the extreme issues (such as socialism, bathroom bills, political correctness, and the zero-tolerance policy) need to be thrown out the window.
