Ask a Professional Welder Anything.

Where did you learn how/ how expensive is it to get started?

Did you start out welding at a vocational school or did you start a different way?

Trade school, or just going to do factory work. Usually good factories will hire you as a temp worker and if you stick with them for 6 month to a year they'll teach you everything you need to know.

Where did you learn how/ how expensive is it to get started?

Started when I was 16 and learned from my Father, then I was to trade school to learn a bit more once I turned 18 after high school. Now it depends on where and how you learn that will very on the price, but it REALLY shouldn't be much. Basically free from very little money at all. BUT I will warn you there can be health risk to welding.

How much Lego can you hold up your butt?

The 4 dot cube pieces.

Never tried it, so I couldn't tell you.

do u ever accidentally scorch yourself

Accidents happen all the time, some very minor some may result in death. Personally I've never had any serious accidents/never seen them personally, but I've heard tons of stories of people getting hurt though. When it comes to something this dangerous the best advice I could give you is to NEVER GET TOO COMFORTABLE with what you're doing. A lot of the times people will just start getting way to comfortable with their job, and start mindless doing it which results in someone getting hurt. Always stay alert, and make sure you have the correct equipment for the job. Now, as far as scorching myself nothing exactly major. I've burnt myself once or twice and trust me, they were very minor but a lesson well learned.

What's it like being a welder? Do you ever get bored of it? Do you have any other skills outside of welding?

Honest work, hard dirty work. I work a minimum of 60 hours a week, but depending on your life style it's worth the cash. I don't really have a family and live by myself, so lonely at times. Also I do contract work at times along with working with major factories like Nissan, and even major cities to help fix pipe lines. Now as far as being bored, it isn't that bad it's a job. Outside of work it depends on my mood, I love driving around enjoying the road, other times I just l relax and play games. Skills worth being paid for? No. I do have skills to like fix cars and just working on machinery in general though, and I'm pretty handy with a computer and helping people make rigs.
