this is just a question for fun so please do not use it as an opportunity to rag on the games too hard — have you experienced (or seen on social media) any zany glitches in BDSP? i think these games really capture the aspect of how insanely buggy the original DP were, whether intentionally or not lol

As for me, I got trapped in my girlfriend’s secret base yesterday :’) went in there because she wanted to show me her statue collection and it just would not let me leave. she felt super bad bc I had to quit and reopen the game but it was a really funny glitch to me tbh. has anyone playing experienced anything buggy or seen it posted about?

I've had a few minor glitches so far. One involves talking to followers (rival at the beginning, what's-her-name in Eterna, etc) by walking one direction, then turning around and immediately talking to them with no delay. Doing so causes the follower to continue the walking animation until you end the conversation, though they won't move anywhere. Another also includes the follower in Eterna Forest, where having her stand between two trainers that walked up to you for a double battle will cause her to start rapidly vibrating left and right the whole time she is between them.

I've mostly seen minor glitches myself and nothing too major. I'm not surprised considering GameFreak got a different company to develop this game. Not hating on them or anything though. I think they did a pretty good job even if it is a little glitchy here and there.

I saw on YT that someone did the surfing glitch and was able to go to Flower Paradise and battle Shaymin. I don't want to corrupt my save file so I dont plan on trying to do it, but at least its a confirmation that Shaymin will get an event in BDSP possibly

I’m regretting I didn’t see this before I did eterna forest bc that sounds so funny 💔💔💔 I kept avoiding double battles I wish I could’ve seen that with Cheryl

I’m not surprised either! I think this is the most glitches we’ve seen since the OG Gen 4 actually — not hating either, I think ilca did really well for a team that had never made a video game before and were undoubtedly rushed and crunched to get this out before legends. :]

I‘ve seen that one too! makes me feel nostalgic because I exploited glitches and got shaymin (ad darkrai) that way in Pearl back in the day :’)

Here’s another one I found: sometimes when a Pokémon evolves, it calls it a completely different name for no explained reason (my friend thinks it might be a case of someone else evolving their Pokémon at the same time as you are, causing a mixup.) happened to me last night — I evolved a gible my girlfriend gave me and suddenly it became japanese

The name glitch is a bug with the online underground. For some reason when hatching or evolving a Pokemon while in the online underground the game draws a name from a random player there rather than the name of the Pokemon.

One of my Pokémon descriptions had a spelling error last night. It said "loose" instead of "lose". I re-read it like, 10 times to make sure I wasn't going nuts, but there's no way it worked with "loose".

I got the name glitch today. I also don't know if it's a glitch or intended but when someone starts to dig on my spot, I see their pickaxe and hammer on my screen and it bugs me so much...

My walk-together partner (a Buneary) turned into a pink mess after visiting the safari zone. It fixed after I completely quit out of the game and reopened, but would stay pink even after returning the Buneary back to her ball and then calling for her again. I've also noticed that sometimes, my walk-together partner wouldn't show up on the overworld. Not sure why that happens.

got another one on my end! got stuck merged with Riley on iron island. was genuinely kind of worried i'd have to quit and reset for a minute before we got detangled 😭

oh, that's not a glitch! that one's just a feature of multiplayer. it is kind of distracting though huh

@vanivon - I had the same thing happen to me in Veilstone, except with my following Buizel. Thankfully it only took a few seconds to get unstuck.

@amemome - The underground thing you're talking about is a feature carried over from the originals. When someone digs within a certain distance of you, any tile they hit on their screen will also be hit on yours, though in the original it would only ever be a pickaxe hit regardless of whether they used a pickaxe or hammer. The hit also didn't take any durability from your wall as well, and has come in incredibly handy to me before. I've had a few cases where I've uncovered an item but didn't have enough durability left to clear it, but a friend (or more often myself on a second DS) was able to dig nearby and clear it for me, and I've been able to help clear items for others as well.

woah i never knew this happened since I don't think I've seen the wall clear from other peoples' hits. thank you for this extra knowledge!!

Reading to try and see what glitches I'll potentially run into before I start my BD file!

That would drive me bonkers! I see that spelling error all the time, but please not in a game entry! 😭 Do you remember which pokémon it was?

I know! It drove me nuts! It was Luxio - no matter which way I read it, loose doesn't fit with the rest of the existing sentence.

Thanks! Now I'm debating on whether I'll read it to satisfy my curiosity or skip it to save myself the frustration. Haha.

I just looked the entry up and loose does work grammatically there. Loose can also be a verb which means 'to release' or 'to discharge' (or 'to let loose' for that matter heh). So the dex entry "Its claws loose electricity with enough amperage to cause opponents to faint" can also be read as "its claws release/discharge electricity with enough amperage to cause opponents to faint"

I would've expected "let" to preceed "loose", otherwise it would make more sense to use "release" or "discharge" as you mentioned. English...

Loose is a shorter word than either release or discharge and 'let' would have been four extra characters (word + space). In the older games, dex entries had to fit in two tiny text boxes so I imagine their usage of loose as a verb is a holdover from when they had limited space. Gamefreak really likes using some variant of the phrasing 'loosing electricity' when describing electric types:

Pikachu:
FireRed/Y: It has small electric sacs on both its cheeks. If threatened, it looses electric charges from the sacs.
Pearl: If it looses crackling power from the electrical pouches on its cheeks, it is being wary.

Raichu:
Pearl/Y: It can loose 100,000-volt bursts of electricity, instantly downing foes several times its size.

Elekid:
Blue/Red Rescue Team: I wave my arms in circles to loose electric attacks!

Electivire:
Platinum/Black/White: Heedless of enemy attacks, it closes in, shoves its tails onto the foe, then looses high voltage.

Magnemite:
Pokemon Ranger: Magnemite looses electricity to attack. It can also recharge your Styler.

I'm pretty sure the only reason I even know this usage of the word loose is because I got confused playing FireRed as a kid for the same reason lol
