I am trying to cycle 16 villagers so that I can hopefully get Carmen back (14 left ughhhh xD)
Should I befriend or ignore unwanted villagers to make them move out? What are your experiences about it?

(I am doing the "TT 2 days forward then 2 days backward" method btw)

From what I've seen, being friends with them works better. My favorite villagers are always the ones that want to leave, and when I want someone to leave fast, I execute their special requests and send them tons of letters. Most effecient way for me.
Good luck with cycling :)

Here's what I've noticed. Befriending or ignoring has no effect on when they'll ping you to move out. However, ignoring them might make them reconsider moving after they ping you. If you're friends, they won't reconsider. So ignoring a character may take longer because they'll have to ping you several times before they go. How do I know this? Pango. Ugh. Took months to get her out.

Thanks for your answer!
Do you TT to the next day once you're done with their requests or do you play normally and wait for tomorrow?

Luckily, I haven't met any resistant unwanted villagers before. I'll be sure to remember your advice from now on :)

I'll keep this very simple. Do not ignore because they won't ping you to move out. I've ignored many unwanted villagers and they haven't pinged me about anything, including moving, just the villagers I talk to.

Oh you can TT to make it faster, but if you don't it'll still work. When I really want someone out I TT to get to do new chores for them but if I just want them to leave some day in the future I play normally ^^

I don't even know where this rumour of ignoring villagers to get them to move out came about. It's a load of crap. I fell for it and had a villager stay forever. :v Use kindness to get them the hell out of your town lmao.

lol, I tried that with Freckles, didn't work. As soon as I started to talk to her, she wanted to leave. So yeah, "no talking" is definitely a terrible idea, I agree with you x)

im kinda trying both. I have only had three pings to move, and all three were ones I talked to. I am ignoring Curlos to see how long it takes him to move.

I ignored my unwanted villagers and they move without hesitation. I also heard the two days forward and back is not as good. But go one day at a time and talk to one villager 10-15 times and if they mention a mover just keep tting till Isabella tells you someone is moving that is if you want that villager to move. If the villager your talking to does not mention anybody moving the no one is moving. I used this method and it works very well. If you want that villager who is thinking about moving to stay just get them to ping you and say stay.

I think you need to have an average level of friendship before starting to ignore them
That's what happened for me with Rosie, I didn't have a high friendship with her (she didn't send me her photo in her leaving letter), I started to ignore her a couple days (4~5) until she finally pinged me yesterday. I hope my experience can help you ^^

I have experimented a little with moving villagers out, and I find that there's not really a difference between ignoring them and befriending them. The trick when ignoring them is to introduce yourself first (just talk to them once when they're moving in). If you don't introduce yourself, they stay for AGES!
Also, they usually won't ping you to leave, but you hear about it from your other villagers rumours. If they do happen to ping you, then just ignore, to avoid the chance that they might change their mind!

I usually ignore ugly villagers and befriend nice villagers (but I still want them to move.)

I am also trying to cycle out villagers, I only need 13 more to go to get Victoria back! :)

It seems we have a long way before getting back our dear villagers x)

I was ignoring Pinky for a long time and wanted her to move, but she just never seemed to. For a few days I made sure to talk to her and she eventually pinged. So it's best to try and befriend them, definitely.

I haven't seen any real evidence either way. :/

I mean, in my own experience, I tried being mean to Agnes, then ignoring her, but only a week after befriending her did she move. However, being mean to Freckles and then ignoring her, got her out before Agnes. Being mean to Ed and ignoring Carmen did nothing, as well. But then Cherry moves in, I introduce myself, a few days later I haven't even spoken to her since and she pings me to move. That didn't work with Carmen.

The villagers I want to keep that I'm being nice to are constantly trying to move, so I try treating Rasher like I do the others. Nothing.

It's too inconsistent to say one way or the other... I think the best bet is to befriend them, and the worst is being mean to them.

ignore, TT a day at a time, and talkto very villager but the ones you don't wanna keep

I agree that making friendship level high is what gets them out. Its as if they accomplished what they came to do in your town, and now, they can go. Ignore them and they want to stay to achieve their objective. Befriend them for sure.

I find that befriending makes it easier to move someone out.. at least for me. Like others said, if you are not close enough, they might reconsider after they ping, saying that they should get to know you better or something like that. Whenever I intentionally do mean stuff / ignore them (pushing them til they get mad, hitting with net..) didnt really work xD..
