In your opinion, which Mario games do you like the most and which ones do you like the least?

Best - Super Mario World
Worst - Any of the NSMB games

3D Mario:

Best - Super Mario Sunshine
Worst - Super Mario 3D World

Mario Kart:

Best - Mario Kart 8
Worst - Super Circuit

Mario RPGs:

Best - Paper Mario 64
Worst - I only played PM64, but I have no intentions on playing Sticker Star after hearing how bad it is.

I never played Mario Sports, Mario Party, or any Mario game under "Other" (except Mario Maker).

Worst: The one I dislike the most is Super Mario Sunshine but I can't really say that because I've only watched someome play it. I don't like it at all. But I love every other 3D game in the series.

Of all the Mario games I ever played, here are my best and worst games from each series where Mario is starring, each with a brief summary on why I perceive these games that way.


2D Mario


Best : Super Mario World | Superb level design for the most part, tight controls and high replayability all make the game a timeless classic

Worst : Super Mario Bros. The Lost Levels | Difficulty borders way too much on the unfair side than actually being challenging, considering on how poorly-aged the controls and how wonky the assets were in first place


3D Mario

Best : Super Mario Galaxy | Intriguing and fun implementation of the gravity on the already great gameplay, surprisingly great visuals for an early Wii title and amazing soundtrack

Worst : Super Mario Sunshine | While it's far from being a mediocre game, its inconsistent difficulty curve and some unpolished mechanics really brought the title down from the greatness it could've been


Mario Kart

Best : Mario Kart 8 | Fantastic track design from both gameplay and aesthetic standpoint, great controls and robust online functionalities

Worst : Super Mario Kart / Mario Kart: Super Circuit | The hardware limitations significantly hampered their timeless appeal; the vast majority of the track design is boring, and the visuals feel rather outdated. The controls also take some considerable amount of time getting used to even with a character having pretty good handling stat, rendering the game less playable in comparison to every other installment.


Mario Party

Best : Mario Party 2 | Great variety with the board design, fun and simple mini-games

Worst : Mario Party: Island Tour | Mini-games are once again fun, but the board design is either hit-or-miss and the single-player content is underwhelming


Mario RPGs

Best: Paper Mario: Thousand Years Door | Great gameplay on both field and battle, top-notch writing, solid visuals and soundtrack

Worst: Paper Mario: Sticker Star | Visuals are eye-pleasing, writing is still top-notch and the musics found here are some of the best of the installment. The environmental puzzles involving "Thing" are too obtuse for the younger audience and quite reliant on trial and error, the battle system hardly feels rewarding, the boss fights suffer from massive difficulty spike if you don't have the right stickers and character development is almost non-existent (with a few exceptions).

2D: Best: Super Mario Land 1 and 2 for the gameboy.. yes childhood.
Worst: Hmm, tough one but probably the western super mario bros 2. like it's not even super mario from start

3D: Best: Probably uh.. Sunshine maybe? It's innovative the least
Worst: Super Mario 64. Yeah go figure.

Mario Kart: Best: Mario Kart 64. LOVE LOVE LOVE
Worst: Mario Kart 8. Too easy stages and they ruined all my fav. 64 stages

Mario Party: Best: 6 if I have to pick one, I love those mini games!
Worst: 1 or 9. Both bad for their times.

Mario RPG: Well I only really played Superstar Saga I think and it's ok, I don't think RPG suits the Mario series anyway...

these are what i think are the best and worst, out of the ones i've played.

2D Mario

best: new super mario bros. (ds). this one's my favourite because there's more variety in the things you can do on it compared to wii and 2, because of the minigames and the 'mario vs. luigi' mode.
worst: new super mario bros. 2. it felt too easy to me, because of coins being absolutely everywhere so i wasn't hard at all to get a ton of lives. i also think it's a shame how most, if not all the music was re-used music from wii, rather than having its own original music.

3D Mario

best: super mario galaxy 2. the music is brilliant, and getting every last star was both fun and very, very challenging.
worst: super mario 3d land. not sure why, but i just didn't enjoy it as much as the other 3d mario games i've played.

Mario Kart

best: i can't decide between wii and 8. playing wii online was tons of fun, and 8 has great track designs, as well as being the best in the series in terms of graphics.
worst: 7. i just stopped playing that one altogether once i got mario kart 8.

Mario Party

best: mario party ds was the most fun imo.
worst: the only other mario party games i've played other than ds are 8 and 9, but out of those two i think 9 is the worst because it took away the whole 'everyone moving separately instead of all together' thing. i think it was more fun that way.

Mario RPGs (including Paper Mario)

best: paper mario: the thousand year door! the story was great, and it was loads of fun to play.
worst: mario and luigi: dream team (mario and luigi games count as mario rpgs, right?), but only because i haven't played through as much of it yet as i have played through the other mario rpgs i've played. i'd say sticker star instead because i've heard that it's terrible, but i've never played it, so that doesn't really count.

Mario Sports

i'm not sure, because they're not really that great imo...

Other Mario games (including Luigi's Mansion and Super Mario Maker)

the only games i remember playing that'd go under 'other' are super mario maker and luigi's mansion 1 and 2. and all three are great imo, so i can't decide which ones are the best and worst.

Best RPG is Paper Mario Thousand Year Door, worst is Sticker Star.

I loved Mario Parties 2 and 3.

Best: Super Mario 3D World/Super Mario Galaxy
Worst: Can't really say, though Sunshine has a really dumb difficulty curve it's still an enjoyable game if you decide not to go after everything in the game. I could say 3D Land, but even then it's enjoyable even though it's really really easy.

Mario Kart:

Best: Mario Kart 8
Worst: Can't say, since I haven't played all of them. Could say 7 but I really liked 7 when it came out and played that thing to death when I got my 3DS.

Mario Party:

Best: Mario Party 1-3
Worst: Everything after Mario Party 8 tbh

Mario RPGS:

Best: Thousand Year Door
Worst: Sticker Star

Other Mario Games:

Best: Mario Maker and Luigi's Mansion
Worse: Can't say since there's a lot of them, and all of them have their ups and downs.
