Hi, does anyone know what colouring pencils are best to buy? That are easy/work good to sharpen and work fine for colouring books?

Primsacolor pencils are on the higher end of what you can find at the regular ol grocery store. They’re a bit more expensive, but generally regarded as “worth it”

If you’re just looking for a decent cheap pack of colored pencils though, I’d say go with Crayola

Basically Prismacolor is worth it only if you plan to draw a lot. Don’t get them if you only need it for a few pictures. That wouldn’t justify the purchase in my opinion. I’m not into drawing enough to justify picking up a box. If I need colored pencils, I’ll go for a cheap pack of Crayola. Those do the trick.

Right, though i’d also say if you’re just starting out your artistic career or something, to just go with the Crayola...Unless having something fancy motivates you and you can afford it, of course ! But don’t dish out big if you’re not going to use them, Crayola works just fine and will last a decent amount of time for the price point

I have prismacolor for colouring books and I love them! Definitely recommend if you can afford them. They blend very nicely. Just be careful sharpening them as they're a little softer. Get a good quality manual sharpener. Not electric and not the one with the crank! And don't drop them hehe.

Prismacolor are good for any coloring, but they aren’t some magical tool but they are very soft and nice to blend. If you’re planning on coloring a LOT and can afford them, I say go for it! But i don’t think they’re worth extensive budgeting haha

As said before, if you press hard they will run out very quickly (though it will produce a very vibrant color) and they can be more difficult to sharpen. Deffo pick up a handheld sharpener if you go with prismacolor!

as everyone has remarked, prismacolor are a good starting point. equally as important thought is getting a good, sharp, sharpener. they sell some that allow you to replace the blade periodically. i've broken a lot of lead by using crappy/dull sharpeners.

I use Prismacolor and don't regret my purchase at all. I'm a novice artist at best but still.

I used to really like Laurentian pencils growing up as a kid as they were a good price and way better than Crayola (I find Crayola break constantly) but they were Canadian only I believe and they stopped making them in 2012... Still wish I had a set somewhere actually.

What do you mean by a manual sharpener?

Is a Metal sharpener ok for Prismacolor colouring pencils?
I just mean a sharpener that you turn by hand. Not an electric one. And not one with a crank. Basically just a regular sharpener but a good quality one. Nothing that might damage the pencil

I got a pack of 24 Art Studio Colouring pencils for my birthday, are they good?

I'm not really good with coloring, but I have a box of faber castells laying around. Also, ever since I learned how to sharpen pencils using a blade, I never used anything else.

I remember seeing a commercial for certain color pencils that you can draw on top of something already colored for shading, it was really good. I sadly don't remember the name. 😔
