Hi guys! This has probably been posted a million times by now and if so, could you link me to the post that covers this?

I’m just wondering if there’s a method people are using for New Horizons that is most effective in moving out a villager; I remember for New Leaf there was the time travel method which worked pretty well for me, but I honestly forgot the specifics of it and have just been guessing by TTing 3 days at a time until someone has the thought bubbles.

I’ve seen people on here get certain villagers into boxes fairly quickly, and I’m curious if there’s a different method they’re using, or if they’re TTing by a certain amount of days at a time? Should you ignore the villagers you want out?

Not sure how different the process is from New Leaf, but anyone have any ideas? Also, I don’t use amiibos!
Thanks :)

They say the best way is to never talk to them. And one day they will be thinking, that’s when you tell them to move away. Don’t hit them, or be mean, just ignore them indefinitely and they will get sad and move away. I haven’t tried this, this is only what I heard.

I read an article saying to never talk to the one you want out but make sure to talk to ALL of your other villagers. Complaining to Isabelle about their behavior and dress I've heard has minimal success in terms of moving out but the ignoring option supposedly helps. The guide said when they have a cloud over their head and look sad to go talk to them and they will mention wanting to move out. Encourage them to leave and they will pack their boxes and leave your island.

This is the guide that a lot of people have been following, and I can confirm it works too. In my experience ignoring a villager has made no impact on how likely they were to move out.

edit to add: Speaking to Isabelle about them does not affect moving out. It will only reset their catchphrase/house/clothing in case you adopted them online and they came with an offensive catchphrase/clothing/furniture item.

oohh, TIL. that's actually so useful (being able to reset villagers). I remember originality being a real big deal in NL because villagers would be idiots and put bugs and fish everywhere in their house lmao

Do you happen to know of a way that doesnt involve TT'ing? I'm trying to avoid doing that until I've completed my goals in the game.

Unfortunately, no. A move-out request is randomly generated once every so many in-game days, so without TTing you'll just have to wait that time out irl.
