Here we go again! Another big disaster within the last two years:

https://www.bbc.com/news/world-us-canada-46403405

A Magnitude 7.0 Earthquake struck an area 7 miles away from Anchorage, and tsunamis are projected to move across the Pacific Ocean. Several aftershocks, including three of them exceeding 5.0 in magnitude, followed the Earthquake.

What are your thoughts on this earthquake?

What do you mean as in thoughts?

They made a point at the end about the Ring of Fire being very active, and it is indeed normal. The Ring of Fire, or Pacific tectonic plate, is the most active plate. So it would be quite a normal occurrence over there, but that doesn't make it any easier to cope with. Earthquakes always come so unexpectedly and it sucks so much, I'm wishing the best for all the people affected by this event as it truly is a hard time to deal with </3

On the bright side, apparently there were no deaths, which is the most important thing. Property can be replaced, but a life is gone forever. That being said, I'm sure this disaster has affected a lot of people, and I hope they will be able to rebuild everything that was destroyed.

The worst thing is going to be the hidden damage. Houses and buildings that got cracks in them as a result of the earthquake probably need to be inspected for structural integrity.

I lived in Japan for a few years and there was this building with a bunch of stores in it that I used to go to a lot. It got some cracks in it during the big 2012 earthquake and the building owners were told by inspectors that the building was unsafe for the long term. It was OK temporarily, but if there ever was a major earthquake again, it stood the risk of collapsing. All of the stores had to move out, they demolished the old building, and then built a new one. I never got to see the new building before I left. It's supposed to be opened up now though.

Hopefully they're managing out there and that everyone's able to fully prepare for the tidal waves that follow.
