I hope this doesn’t sound weird.
I just built myself a little fish market area, but I still need to add some fish there to sell.

The problem is that I’m no fish expert, but I want to make it as realistic as possible.
What type of fish that you can catch in game do people eat? Any of the sharks?

So far I have salmon, turtles, turban shells and oysters 🤷🏻‍♀️

These are all great!
Also just wondering, do any of the fish or deep sea that aren’t 1x1 fit in the stalls?
I tried the sea bass and it’s too big. The 1x1 looks too small. I want it to take all the stall.

I tried several 1x2 fish just now, looks like their tanks are all the same size and that items bigger than 1x1 can't go in a stall... You could potentially put those a few tiles behind the stall instead to still have them on display? Because some fish like the tuna, (king) salmon or sea bass definitely would be fit for consumption.

I see you mentioned sharks too! The ones we have in-game are not really consumed irl - usually the smaller species are the ones caught for that instead. In fact, I'm fairly sure all the sharks we have in ACNH are rare and their populations vulnerable/threatened, so they're not a great pick.

The curator at the aquarium I worked at was very enthusiastic about red snapper but I just had to take his word for it, haha. In any case, I see that the squid has not been mentioned yet (which is more popular in asia), and you could also consider some of the diving creatures like the different species of shrimp and lobsters for variety! ;)

I agree with what Mick said! If you want more Asian-inspired ideas, both squid and octopus are good ideas! It's technically not a fish, but I'd suggest seaweed, and sea grapes, too!

There's also the king salmon, cherry salmon or the regular salmon if you're looking for some fresh water fish. Also the golden trout, catfish or red snapper would work. I think a sturgeon would take up the whole stall if that's what you're looking for.

I'm pretty sure that it's illegal to eat turtle and shark because of the endangered species act. If you're looking to make your area more of a black market, they would be good ones to use. Shark fin is apparently a big delicacy, but the act of de-finning the shark and leaving it to die in the waters is illegal. Either that or frowned upon. It's pretty much like the poachers from Africa.

Different places/cultures eat different fish/sea creatures. Crabs, lobsters, and crawfish are big eaters depending on if you live in the south/south east of US. Catfish is another big southern meal. I like it. It's not bad breaded.

Octopus and squid are big in Japan, from what I've gathered. Any bass, trout, and tuna are common fish.
