Based from what I've read somewhere, there is a more efficient way of removing villagers, and that is by replacing them with someone much more tolerable.
But first, you need to have 10 villagers and the campsite.
If you met the above conditions and if you talk to your desired camper, they will negotiate with a villager (of your choice) to move out. If the negotiation is successful, the camper will move to where the previous villager was the following day.
I haven't read anything if the negotiation could fail, but I think it's best to ignore villagers that you wish to evict.
