Can I invite a villager to move in and tell another villager to move out on the next day?

Sorry, second thread in a day! I promise I will calm down soon as I’ve learnt a lot from research today but I can’t find an answer to this anywhere. I posted in the FAQ but have decided it’s a bit complicated and needs its own thread.

A villager (Megan) asked to move out today and I said yes because I want her to go. But I want to invite someone from the campsite today too (Roscoe, who’s pitched up). If I invite him today, will Megan still be in boxes tomorrow or will my never-updated version of NH magically stop that after I invite Roscoe?

Also, will I have to buy a new plot for Roscoe beforehand or will he take Megan’s plot? (I only have 6 villagers currently. I am a slow player.)

Basically, can Isabelle make the morning announcement of “someone’s moving in today! But someone else is moving out!!”
If not, I don’t mind waiting a few days for Roscoe to move in, I just want to make sure that if I do invite him, that this won’t stop Megan moving out.

Sorry if this is obvious but today has been a rough day and I’ve already messed up something on my game so I want to get this right. Please be gentle with me aha

Thanks!

I did this before, and what happened is that the campsite villager moved in, pushing another villager out, and the villager that had requested to leave ''forgot'' about leaving.

Ex: Zucker wanted to leave, I said yes, Wendy moved in through campsite, putting Opal in boxes, Zucker then proceeded to forget he was going to move and didn't go in boxes the next day.

ah ok this is frustrating. Was that with 10 villagers and if so do you think that was why (I only have 6 currently). Also, did you get notified about the other villager going into boxes? Thanks for your help!

It was when I had 10 villagers, yes (I re-started, that's why you see 8 in my signature), and I think that Zucker forgot to move out due to a new villager going to boxes. Because I'm sure I said yes, since I was going to gift him to a friend (did that eventually, Zucker isn't glitched or anything like that to this date). So maybe the game registers one move out and doesn't proceed with the other?

But wait if you don't have yet 10 villagers it may work? I'm afraid I can't answer that though. Since the campsite one wouldn't be forcing anyone in boxes, there may be a chance

Ah this makes so much sense, thank you.
I made the silly mistake of editing this before you replied so just gonna ask again: I assumed you got the standard “oh I’ll replace opal” text you get when villagers move in?

from this info, do you reckon that Megan will move out and Roscoe will replace her in my situation?

Thanks for all your help and being so patient with me: today has been an awful day so I’m being super paranoid about everything in game. I really appreciate this :)

Yeah I got the ''Seems that Opal wanted to move''.

Now, if Megan asked to move and it wasn't because Roscor suggested it, Roscoe won't move in her spot. The thing is, for example today I had a campsite visitor and when asked to move she said ''oh seems you don't have a free spot'', and didn't ask about anyone moving, why? Because the game recognizes that I still have free spots to make (2), and thus won't force a villager out. That's my guess since I took villagers before from the campsite (when I had 10 in my old save file), and never happened.

If you put a plot for him, I think he would move in and Megan would continue to move out since you didn't trigger a forced boxes the same day she asked? And that's what had happened with my Zucker

But maybe it's better if we get a second confirmation just in case

Thanks both of you. I’m defo happy to put a new plot down, I’m just worried that it’ll stop Megan from wanting to move. I have heard that someone can’t move in while someone else is moving out at the same time. Not sure if that’s true: what do you think?

I'm talking to a friend and she says she knows there can only be one villager in boxes at a time. That may mean that in fact, if Roscoe is moving in (boxes, just not the move out kind), Megan won't continue to put her boxes down.

You say you don't mind waiting for Roscoe to move in, does that mean he comes from an amiibo? If it's the case maybe it's better if you don't risk it

This is EXACTLY what happened to me. It bummed me out. I was so excited to go island hopping lol

I sorta did this one time and it ended up giving me a ghost-plot glitch. Penelope was in boxes, and on that same day I kicked out Diva for Rocco. Rocco moved in fine, but Penelope just... stayed there. Like she was still in boxes but she wasn't leaving my town, and when she finally did her house was bugged.

Just wanted to share- I know you're not doing that and luckily it should all go good if you just make a new plot for Roscoe.

unfortunately he is a visiting camper, not from amiibo. Big sad hours. Now I have to decide whether Roscoe moving in is more important than Megan moving out...this is the third animal crossing stressful moment of the day, on top of coursework submission. I am exhausted.

if anyone has any information confirming or denying this, I’d be super grateful to hear it.

After you buy a new plot, the next day it should remain a plot kit, not a house. So Roscoe would only be in boxes (moving in) the day after tomorrow, as tomorrow it'll remain a plot kit saying "reserved to Roscoe".

Therefore, you won't have 2 villagers in boxes at the same time. It's safe to buy a new plot and invite him. :)
