Can somebody explain Katie to me?

Sorry for the dumb thread.
Anyway: last night I met a girl on the island, wanted to give someone Katie. She brought her to my town and we both searched for her but she wasn't there. The girl said maybe she'd show up when she left and did so. I looked for Katie myself, she wasn't there. I saw her come on the train and say she was going to explore? It was about ten pm.
Now
It's the day after and I STILL can't find her. Is there a chance she won't come? I haven't time traveled at all, I did that last time and assumed that's why she didn't show. So I refrained this time. Help?

She's not a visible NPC until she is wanting to visit a new town, iirc.

In a few days you will probably find her wandering around your town asking you to take her somewhere else. Although you might not, because sometimes she just doesn't appear.

After someone drops her off, you won't find her in your town that same day. She will send the other player (the one who dropped her off) a letter that says something like "thanks for taking me there, here's a gift!" And the other player (the one whose town she went to) doesn't get anything
