hello all, i have used tbt before (years ago) & i only ever used it to buy, sell, trade in games items but now that i decided to come back here after getting back into acnh im so curious abt what a collectable is. i see lots of shops selling them (& even having a stock market omg) so i see that they are like little pictures (i think) so do they just display on your profile? or do they unlock customizations? because i have seen ppl with cute backgrounds when they post & wonder how they get them. sry if this isn't the right place to post, ive never been super savvy on here.

Yes the image collectables are bought and sold. With some limited time only , some can be sold to other users, others can't.

Due to the limited stock and fanbase some collectables end up being worth a lot of tbt money (abbreviated tbt).

Date on collectables affects the position in your post lineup.

New and limited stock Collectables are often made available at special events.

You can see from my lineup I have a mix of Christmas exclusive ones plus bell tree birthday 20 and 10. Not to mention happy home designer launch collectable.

You get tbt by posting and participating in events.

could u explain more abt the post lineup position? so if u have older collectables then your posts show up closer to the top of things?

Some people are interested in the timestamp collectables were purchased. The ordering of how collectables are lined up depends on the purchase date. Therefore if you want a specific lineup you have to buy collectables with a specific date.

The newer the collectible is (in relation to the other collectibles in your lineup, aka the collectibles you are displaying), the closer to the top it appears. If you’re looking at the collectibles you currently have displayed left to right, the oldest one appears at the end of the lineup (e.g. the blue star fragment in my lineup at the end is the oldest one I’m displaying right now). It doesn’t mean your post literally shows up closer to the top of the page. The thing that changes the background of your posts is called a backdrop, which can be bought the same way as collectibles. The difference is that they’re usually temporary.

Also, certain collectibles can only be bought with event currency, which you can get by participating in the activities of an event. These are limited time and disappear shortly after the event ends. A few of them ask for an amount of currency that would require taking part in everything the event has to offer, so these tend to be the most sought after and expensive due to how much work that entails, as event currency generally can’t be sent to other users to help them buy said collectibles during the event (unlike tbt, which can).

If there’s anything else @/matt didn’t mention that I forgot to as well, I’m sorry! I’m really tired right now. If that did happen, someone else can add on.

The only thing I’ll add is that you can also earn TBT by selling art if that interests you. A lot of people are interested in art on here, and it’s a good way to make some TBT if people don’t want to use RLC (the real life cash option, like PayPal) to pay for it.

Wanna add a bit when it comes to the time and date of collectibles, we call it a lineup.
Mainly a lineup of collectibles, two rows of five collectibles in a certain of pattern and choice and desire of the person who owns those collectibles.

Hence why the time and date can be very important for a lot of people when making their lineups. And can be more value to someone else.its why a lot of people mention what date and time the collectibles they're selling to trading.

Take my own lineup for example, I needed two normal pink blossoms to sit between the zipper blossom, so for a but I bought a few different sakuras to see which will go well. Same with the eggs, luckily enough to have two that one was really old to go behind my older sakuras.

Another interesting thing is that you can add messages to collectibles, hovering a mouse over some collectibles shows you what they are. Some people like messages, some don't. The messages could be anything the person wants, or random, and sometimes a message from a good friend or a specific date or time you want may mean you may never want to trade that collectible since it can mean so much to someone.
I got some collectibles where the time 11:08 or a 39 is in it, or message I liked on that specific collectible that I wouldn't ever giveaway.
