Can someone explain the whole second copy thing to me?

So I've been thinking about getting a second copy for awhile now but I don't really know how it all works. Can someone please explain it to me?

You could reset to get your dreamies or help other people get there dreamies.

Also use it as a tt town, or just a full second town....I was given a 2nd copy as a gift and at first I was going to use it to transfer villagers but I think I'll end up doing a totally different type of town there. Not that I've actually even unwrapped it since I barely have time for my real town!

You can also TT, make a (different) themed town. Basically you can do whatever you want xD

So do I need to buy another 3ds, or do I just need to buy another copy of the game?

You'd have to buy another 3DS to actually transfer dreamies to yourself it that's what you'd use your game for. But you don't have to if that's not what you want. But I would use another SD card for safety after using a second copy...
