i think the max amount you can bury is 10k bells and you get 30k when the tree is finally grown

Yes, if you bury more money the fully grown tree will be more profitable, just keep in mind that there's a limit.
I can confirm that the amount of money the tree can give caps off at 10k per bag; if you bury more than that, it'll be a huge loss.
You'll receive 3 bags of it for a total of 30k once the tree is fully grown.

It's possible to get more than 10k bags, but not likely, making it a gamble. The highest amount that's guaranteed is 10k.

The limit switches between 10k and 99k, but people aren't sure what the conditions are currently, I think. If you want to always make money, you can bury 10k, but if you want to, you can bury 30k. Worst case, you'll get 30k back, but you might also get 90k back.
