Can you scan amiibo and save for later?

Hi, I'm wondering if there is a way to scan the amiibo cards and save the characters in the game for later without building their home immediately? I would like to scan my friend's cards but don't have time to build each house right away and we haven't figured out how to do this. Thanks.

you can unbox their items and leave and then they will be cataloged. you can revisit and actually do their house later

Ooh! Thats amazing to know lol I didn't know that things stayed cataloged. Does that only work for the items they choose and put in boxes? Or does it work by pulling out anything new that is in the catalog?

all the items they unlock are cataloged after you unbox their required items and the villager is added to the client list so you dont need the card to visit them again, you only need the cards to invite them to a party or assign them to something.
