I figured this would be as good a spot as any to just be curious about this. ^_^ I was wondering which battle style you guys prefer; casual or competitive.

I'm definitely a casual player to be honest, but I put that down mostly to my lack of patience to get the team that I would want... plus, I don't really know much about IV/EV's ^_^" I'm sure if I did and I put in the effort and patience, I would enjoy having a competitive team. I have thought about it before, but I just find it boring to hatch the 'perfect' pokemon and get the correct stuff for it when I could be running around the region looking for things I've missed (and knowing me, that's a lot... only found Mewtwo by a fluke about a month ago on X) or playing other games.

I don't know, maybe one day I'll be bothered to try competitive. But for now, I don't think I'll be doing much battling online as I know any team I get can be wiped pretty easily XDD

But, yeah! Rambling aside, I'm much more a casual since I prefer to play with pokemon I like or have had with me since the beginning, even if they're not that great. For me, it's all about the fun in battling with the pokemon you like and not the 'perfect' pokemon.

So what do you prefer? Casual or competitive? Or do you prefer a bit of both?

I think I prefer both battling styles sometimes I just like to battle with baby pokemon only :p and other times I just wanna rek people I'm always up for a battle ;)

I prefer casual battling, to be honest. I think it's more fun, because you get to see which Pok?mon other people like and flaws can keep things interesting. Plus, it's more laid-back, and I don't really have the time (or patience) to put together a competitive team.

I imagine that competitive battling is fun, but it seems like specific Pok?mon and natures are sought after a lot, so it's more about winning than just using the Pok?mon you like.

im more of a completionist/breeder
i want to fill my national dex and become the very best, like noone ever was
breeding is p easy for me, thanks to dexnav + friend safari + hacked ditto
only time ill get into competitive battling is for battle maison so i can get TMs + breeding stuff

I would go with casual.

I just like running around with a team of Pokemon I just like rather than excessive breeding for certain Pokemon...Especially if that means I can't use a large number of Pokemon 'because their IV's are wrong' or something.

If competitive could be done with much less hassle, I probably would, but I guess that would ruin it for the competitive players.

I like casual. with competitive i see a lot of the same pokemon on peoples teams, like gardevoir. most of my friends are the competitive type, so my butt gets kicked every time. it's made me want to make a competitive team now though.

I'm more of the casual type, but I'm also into competitive breeding and battling~ Being competitive can be kinda fun, but it can really be tedious and took me a long time to understand competitive breeding/trading stuff, strategies, terminologies, etc~ but overall I prefer casual battling with my favorite pokemon because it's just more fun for me eheh

I am super casual I generally pick pokemon for their looks rather than strength ^^

I prefer casual battling. Like you mentioned, I usually just pick out a couple of Pokemon that I like, or Pokemon that I caught early on in the game, and they become the team that gets me through the rest of the game. The game itself is easy enough that it doesn't really matter which Pokemon you have on your team. I would like to put together a competitive team at some point, though. I might try that after I finish everything else in ORAS.

I'm casual really, but like you in that I might feel like attempting to be competitive on one day but then wonder why the heck I bothered on another. Not really a competitive person in general though, so maybe that's why.

I'd say I'm more competitive, though I use pokemon that I like rather than solid teams.

Casual with the main storyline.

Then after I beat the game, I start breeding for IV's, natures, and competitive battles.

I train competitively, but I don't play competitively since most "competitive"players are huge (with lack of a better word) noobs. It's just not fun to go against randoms that you know are going to be bad.

Plus Mega Evolutions are ruining the series. They're cool, but they are uneccesary. There are many megas that can sweep an entire team.

Unlike in smash, I'm competitive to the death. Kinda because I'm a completionist, kinda because my friends are also competitive, but entirely because I WANNA BE THE VERY BEST LIKE NO ONE EVER WAS.

I was really competitive a few years ago. Since then, I've started to focus more on other games and have become more casual in Pok?mon. I think I'm still pretty decent at battling, though I'm not as familiar with the current meta.

I would consider myself to be compasual, a fusion of casual and competitive. I generally play casually and don't stick to competitive builds 100%, so I won't likely be winning any tournaments if I entered any, but I enjoy ensuring that my Pok?mon have max IVs, competitively suggested EV investment, and worthwhile movesets and Abilities. I'm competent enough to defeat some friends, though not enough to defeat other friends or stand a chance against people who really dedicate themselves to competition. I'm just in it to enjoy it, and part of my enjoyment just happens to be the knowledge that my Pok?mon have what it takes to stand a chance in a serious battle with other human players if I, myself, put that dedication in.

The only time I'm competitive is playing ranked overwatch, lol. I just like to play games to have fun, winning is just a bonus. I fill my pokemon team with my favorite pokemon, not ones that are really "good". Also, I can't be bothered to train them and all.
