Sorry if the topic is misleading, but do you need a silver or gold fishing rod in order to catch one? There is this one particularly large shadow in the ocean that always gets away no matter how quick I start to reel in. I only have a regular fishing rod so I'm thinking I might need the silver or gold. Any thoughts?

No, I'm pretty sure you can catch it with any of them.
Because the only way to get the golden rod is to catch all of the fish, including the coalecanth.

nah it's just REALLY quick... I've missed two so far
(and you only get the golden rod after you've caught every fish, so that's an impossible requirement)
how does one attain the silver rod though? I don't have one yet... (and what's it good for other than being shiny?)

They say it has a better lure on it, causing the fish to nibble a little longer.

So I guess it isn't a requirement, but would probably help if one had the silver rod. Seeing as though the fish stay on the bait a little longer.

It is possible to catch one with a regular fishing rod. They might also be Tuna because the Ceolancath and Tuna's shadows are identicle. Anyway... Good luck with trying to catch one ;)

Yeah it would help a good deal.
But I have no idea how to get the silver one.
Tom Nook sells silver fishing rods and silver nets in his shop for time to time. I don't know if you can catch a coalecanth with a regular fishing rod because I caught mine with a silver. Sorry I can't answer that question. :smilehappy:

yeah u can catch one with a normal fishing rod i have one in my museum and no silver or gold fishing rod and the coalecanth looks just a little longer then a tuna i think xD

There you go!

No, Silver Rods would work better though.

P.S. You can get a Golden Rod without hacking nor catching all the fish.

You can use any rod. Ive caught 3 of them. Their shadow is long like a tuna/ray, if anyone didnt know.
