I have Celeste on my island at the moment, it's currently 9pm and I've not seen any shooting stars in the 2 hours I have been playing. Is it not a definite thing that to will see them?

No, you won't always see them when Celeste is there! Sometimes there's Celeste without any shooting stars, and sometimes you'll only see some stars on specific moments (like 1A.M. or something).

You can also sometimes see shooting stars without celeste being there.

to my knowledge Celeste being on your island doesn't always mean there'll be any stars, although you could get a light shower! but these are often harder to spot because the stars are so few and far between. if you know your weather seed you can track it that way, but otherwise it's just if you get lucky

I had a funny situation one week where I had Celeste one night without shooting stars and the very next day massive shooting stars without Celeste. I appreciated having both in that week, but it's more fun to enjoy the stars when Celeste is there. Celeste is the best. ❤

If you don't have what we here call a heavy meteor shower, you can potentially see a few shooting stars every hour or longer

This is my weather seed for one of my islands from Dec 21, 2020.

  • Through the whole hour of 7PM, there was only 3 minutes of shooting stars.
  • There was only 1 minute of shooting stars for 8PM.
  • None for 9PM
  • 3 Minutes for 10PM
  • 1 Minute for 11PM

Your shooting stars are basically predetermined to happen at certain times rather than happen by chance. So if you're inside when they happen, you miss them. If you're standing around waiting for them when they are not set to show up, you're just wasting time unfortunately. I recommend finding your weather seed.

How do you figure this all out? I saw 2 go past but I wasn't quick enough to wish as I was trying to shoot a balloon!

It takes a bit of determination and dedication, but you can find your islands weather seed if you collect enough data .

There is a lot of good information on Ninji's website (The one linked) . Some things though that isn't mentioned, and very important to know is that

1. adding a new player to the island will interrupt weather patterns for the rest of the day. So the
Weather on that day cannot be used to find the seed.

2. holidays have set weather patterns, and as such, cannot and should not be used to find the seed.

Finding the seed can be easy if you consistently track the weather of each hour during the day. The weather morphs into the next as the hour progresses, so it's best to record the weather at the :05 minute mark of each hour.

The "unsure" options, although slower, are your best friend. So I recommend to use them to avoid all error margins.

Recording the minute shooting stars happen, and even the minutes shooting stars didn't happen can be very helpful in finding the seed. If you can record the seconds they happened, even better.

Be sure to track special weather patterns, like special cloud types, Aurora Borealis, rainbows, double rainbows, etc. These can help narrow down the seed.

I think the way Celeste works changed with the rotating NPC schedule update, and now if she's on your island, you do have shooting stars of some sort. If Isabelle hasn't mentioned a meteor shower, though, it's likely it's a light shower with much more infrequent stars. MeteoNook is the best tool for working with light showers because it tells you the exact minutes and seconds of each shooting star you'll get.
