Anyone versed in electronics here? So having managed the joycon drift fiasco and growing even more paranoid in general, I noticed one of the air intake vents on the back of my Switch has dust built up inside the little holes. I've read about compressed air but wouldn't that just blow that dust elsewhere inside?

My Switch doesn't have overheating problems yet but I'm just preparing... :/ I'd rather not have to take the system apart. Any tips are appreciated!

A cosmetics brush can be pretty decent at picking out dust of a surface. Afterwards, a bit of compressed air should do the trick. However, only a very brief burst. Too much and you could accidentally cause damage.

I wouldn't be too concerned with dust inside the system, the Switch is built very tightly. I'd imagine the dust is just gathering on the ventilation spots.

I share your concern with dust in consoles. I don't really risk taking them apart myself, but I watch MyMateVince who does if you want to clean the inside. I wouldn't really be worried about it at this point in time though. I was also advised that it is not a good idea to blow air into a console because it just blows the dust everywhere inside rather than cleaning it. Really the only thing you can do to clean the dust out without having to take the console apart is having a suction vacuuming tool to suck up the dust from the venting area.

Thank you both for the tips! So far it's not fully covered in dust, not even halfway so I'm not overly worried but I'll definitely keep an eye on it and the temperature. I may try compressed air then. I looked up a video of someone taking apart a Switch and the rest of the system does seem protected enough inside for dust to not be an issue. But yeah I'll keep a close eye on it. This stuff stresses me out.

Yeah, just don't blow the compressed air directly into the console. Just use it to blow any particles left behind from any brush you used to wipe dust off.
