My newest neighbor... Is my husband!

Guys, the man HATES Nintendo. He would much rather play COD than mess with the "childish" games on my switch. But after a week of being quarantined with me as I was tested for COVID (turned out negative, and I have bronchitis), and then a few more days of me hogging the TV playing AC, he. Picked. Up. My. Controllers. And. Started. Playing.

Needless to say, I just learned about the whole "one island per switch" thing. I really wanna go back downstairs and manage his game play worse than he has been attempting to manage mine (he's been googling and attempting to tell me how to play up until now). But, since he did finally decide to give it a try, I s'pose I want him to see the enjoyment I get out of it. I imagine he will get bored with it quick but... For those of you who co-habitate on one island, how do you manage it? Any stories you'd like to share? The article I just read on Google didn't give me much hope lol.

It sounds like he's playing your character right now. Maybe you could start him with a character of his own? Then If he quits like you expect he will, you could always use his character's house for your own extra storage. You probably know how to do this already, but in case you don't (it wasn't clear to me when I started a new character), you need to create a new profile on your switch, then start the game with that profile. Then you could call him from the new app that Tom Nook will place on your characters Nookphone and at least play together shaking trees and the like.

It's the middle of the night here where I live, and I'm not thinking coherently, but I just went back and read your post again and you make it pretty clear that the two of you are playing separate characters, sorry that I misinterpreted what you said.

I have a second character on my island, but I only use him as a mule for extra storage. I did notice that the secondary characters get access to the land- and water-scaping permits too, and I don't like that at all. There is too much opportunity for one player to ruin the other players hard work inadvertently.

There doesn't seem to be too many opportunities for co-op play when there are two players sharing an island. I suppose the two of you could shake trees and chop them with stone axes for wood. Maybe catch bugs and fish together. They have the stopwatch available in Nooks Cranny, and the two of you could have timed fishing competitions, or one of you could bury a prize somewhere and use the timer to conduct a treasure hunt for the other. On nights with Meteor Showers, you could both wish on falling stars.

Sorry that I don't have good suggestions, I'm still tired and not really hitting on all six. I'm not happy about the one island per console restriction either. I hope it works out for the two of you, and that you both have a good time playing.
