Hey,

I need a bit of advice here...

The first AC game I owned was Wild World and later on I got City Folk and recently I bought the New Leaf bundle. But now everyone is telling me that the GC version is still the best one and that's the one I've never played before, so I don't even know what I'm missing. I guess these people just love the game so much due to nostagia...
However, I'm thinking of getting it to try it out and to complete my collection.
So now I actually want to get the GameCube version and a controller. I already own a Wii. But it's still going to cost me close to 50 euros (for me), which might be a lot of money spending on a game released 11 years ago. Furthermore, I won't be able to go to the island. So I really want to make sure I'm not making a mistake buying this game.

Is this game still worth buying?

xx

Edit: Oops, should've posted it in the subforum perhaps...

I had the same thought abd went to buy it. I started playing and stopped after half an hour. I just don't liked it much. Of course it is a great AC game and so, but compared to the others.. xD Maybe I should tell you that I'm no big fan of the wii-version too, but I still played that often.
Maybe others can tell you more about it :)

I have to be honest, it is/was an awesome game but a lot of that was because it was this radical new thing. I still have my 2 towns, I never deleted them. I booted them up over the holiday weekend to see how they were (weeeeeeds!) and wow it was just....it's so freaky. Everything looks creepy, it's all so less detailed, there's so much less to do. Controlling your character is harder. The flowers and landscape looked awful. The system of moving from acre to acre was painful.

There are still things I like that they took away: there are more villagers; you can see Pete flying; your town seems bigger; there are soccer balls (also basketball and volleyball I think) in your town and you can actually get villagers to kick them around with you; not to mention the villagers who have been killed off like Twirp and Rowan (I think it was Rowan). Going to the island and playing the island games on your gameboy are fun. I also loved the statues the town built when you paid off your house!

But I would not recommend laying out a lot of money just to see what it's like. If you could get it cheaply for fun, sure, but if it's going to cost you a lot I don't know that you'll be happy with it. I loved it back when it came out and after playing the other day....well I think it'll be another 52 weeks before I go check in on everyone again.
