Could anyone tell me how those amiboo cards work?

Hello,

I wanted to buy a small amount of cards because I almost never get villagers I like and waiting for them to move takes a lot of time...

However I do have a few questions regarding those cards:

Is there any difference between the official ones from nintendo and the fanmade ones?

What happens if I buy one from nintendo and I get like two Isabells from different series. What is the difference here?

What happens if I get a card from a villager that is not in the game (like Blanca or Shrunk)? Is that card useless?

Can anyone help me out here...?

In terms of functionality, no - they're actually pretty easy/much cheaper to make yourself but I don't know if we're allowed to discuss that here so I won't detail how to make them, but there are tons of guides online! But yeah, they will function the same regardless of whether it's an official card/amiibo or not, so it doesn't matter if you're not a collector who specifically wants the original amiibos/cards for the aesthetic.

I'm not too sure about this one, but I assume for Photopia, Isabelle will wear the respective outfits of her card, if there is a difference in functionality at all?

They won't show up in Photopia, but you will be able to purchase their poster from Nook Shopping once you have used the amiibo.

1. They work the same. The fanmade ones are about as legal as pirating a movie from a torrent site, so I would not recommend it, but as far as the game goes, it sees no difference.

2. For NH, there is no difference right now. I don't know if that will change after the update or not.

3. If you scan them, you can get a poster of that character to use in-game. You can probably do more with them after the new update and DLC comes out, but we don't know for sure yet. This is speculation, but I am assuming we will starting post-update be able to use them to summon the characters for The Roost and Harv's photo studio. Also, if you get the DLC, you can probably make houses for them on the archipelago.

One other thing to consider regarding official cards vs bootleg cards - official cards tend to hold their value if you ever decide to sell or trade them.

Everything has been answered, but I’ll add that trading (here on the forum for example) is a great and easy way to get to the cards you want. Lots of people have duplicates that they don’t need, so there’s a good chance you can trade some of your own unwanted cards for a favorite or two. I’ve only had good experiences so far!
