I think if someone bids like 5-10 mins before it closes then it goes up by a certain time? So it lasts longer?

yup, it's an extension to the end time by a certain amount of minutes. it's so that someone doesn't lurk an auction and waits til the last few minutes to place a bid. 'cause it's kinda unfair to everyone else, since it doesn't give them a chance to outbid.
