well, i think this is the right place to make this thread.

not many people know, or would suspect, that i crochet lots and lots. for those that don't know what crochet is, it's similar to knitting, except instead of using 2 needles, you use 1 hook. crochet has more freedom with what you can make, because you can make any kind of shape you can imagine, while with knitting you're kind of bound to making flat pieces of fabric. you CAN make shaped things with knitting, but it's just much harder. anyway...

just wanted to see what people on here would think of some of the stuff i've made. here's a link to my facebook crochet album (hope that's ok):

I really want one. =)

The stuffed animals are really cool. How long does it take you to do one?

the smaller ones like the elephant or hippo, maybe 3-4 hours. the bunnies though tend to take like 9-12 hours. i'd really like to sell them, but... let's say i sold one of the bunnies for 20 dollars and it took me 12 hours to make. that's like 1.50-2 dollars an hour? lol i suck at math, but i know it's something terrible.

Nice :D
How long does it take to learn, and how long does one project take, e.g how long did the Elephant take? I want to learn :p

to understand how to crochet, it doesn't take long at all... the hardest part is getting used to being able to maneuver the hook with one hand, while maneuvering the yarn to be given to the hook with the other. you have to have TONS of patience to get comfortable with crocheting, but just understanding it doesn't take long at all.

the elephant would probably take someone new to crocheting a few days off and on, just because of the frustration involved when you're new to it. if you did want to learn, i'd help you any way possible~

Ok, sounds interesting. If you make a mistake, can you undo the error unlike in knitting?

in knitting, you actually can undo your error, but it's MUCH more difficult to correct than in crochet, and if you have to undo an error in knitting, you're more likely to make a whole mess of other errors to correct. knitting is kind of like putting a lot of toothpicks on top of each other... if one on the top messes up and falls, it's more than likely going to make ALL of the previous stitches you've made be effected, and also fall.

crochet though is like placing blocks on top of each other. if you mess up one of the top blocks, you can just redo it and it won't effect the ones under it, because they're stable. also if you need to undo some blocks to get back to a mistake that you've just realized you made, you go back through the blocks in the order you put them there, and you can stop exactly where you need to, picking back up and correcting the error.

here's a video of the very very very very BASIC thing you begin doing with crochet, by the best crochet "teacher" there is on youtube, for those that could possibly be interested:

That's cool. Crafty stuff can get addicting. No, I don't crochet or knit, but really creating anything or recreating something is a lot of fun for me.

i have so much other stuff i've made that i think is 100% better than that little elephant. so here's my stuff i'm most proud of... everything's finished except the tree of life blanket for my mom. you guys are killing me only liking that elephant! lol

i'm going to make a sackboy nevermore, although technically, he's knitted in the game, lol. people who don't know the difference won't be able to tell though. people from this craft site i visit daily have crocheted tons of sackboys already, like this one:
http://www.craftster.org/forum/index.php?topic=342134.0

and jasonnman, yeah, you can use ANYTHING. people use copper wire for like, birdhouses or little decorative things. here's an example:
http://www.lushlee.com/2009/05/copper-wire-crochet-works-by-yoola/

and right now, i'm working on crocheting a plastic bag to be able to be reused for years to come... out of plastic bags, lol. here's the site i'm following to do that:
http://diyfashion.about.com/od/diydivas/ig/Plarn-Bags-and-Purses/Bottom_Plarn_Bag.htm

yarn is definitely what you need to learn with at the beginning, but once you get the basics and get used to the motions, your imagination is the limit.
