I’m happy to hear you got your second island! I know I saw a few of your posts considering it so I’m glad you ended up getting it :)

Congrats! Which Switch did you get?

I’ve only had 4 hours sleep so forgive me if I read your post wrong but you can play local with digital copies, I do it almost every day :)

I actually play with both islands all the time on one account, just choose local play. You'll have to set up a special dodo code and then you can visit yourself. I will say, the only thing about having a second island is that I absolutely do NOT want to fully decorate another island, sooo it's more only for the villager slots lol

I got the Switch Lite and the color I got was Black. To answer your question, you cannot play local, because I own the game the other user I created cannot play the game because they don't own it. The only way to do it was to create a 2nd account, then I had to link the account in order to get another online membership (which is a 7 day free trial) just to play online. Online Play was the only way I can do it. I tested it and it does work. It doesn't work too well with Local.

To clarify I have a digital copy so this whole thing took me hours to figure out and setup. Basically you must deregister your main switch and then sign in onto the 2nd switch and make sure its your primary console. Since the 2nd Switch has no data on it you redownload the game since you bought the game and you own it so you can do that. Now here comes the tricky part. You cannot play the game at the same time with 2 switches. You need to create a 2nd user and a 2nd account just to make that person play the digital copy they do not own. The way this works is that your 2nd Switch must be your primary console and the main one must be deregistered. Then when you do that have the 2nd user go onto the main Switch that is deregistered and then your main user can still access the game on the 2nd Switch.

Ohhhhh i see. I also forgot to mention that when I do that, I use two physical copies (mine and my husband's). Sorry that didn't help! I was hoping it would.

I have two physical copies and when trying to play the same profile on both switches at the same time I get the same message Sora gets. I have to use a different profile to play both islands at the same time,

Oooh a second island- that's awesome!!! I also have a second Switch but I set it up in a slightly different way. I'm not sure which has more pros/cons but I thought it might be interesting to share what I did with mine...

I ended up creating a second nintendo account instead of having both units tied to one so it's essentially like a whole other person owns it. A big drawback is unless you have the family plan already, you'd obviously pay more for it to play with nintendo online. Plus I ended up buying the game twice. In the end it cost a lot more to do but I saved up for a loooooong time and I'm very happy having the ability to do essentially whatever I want on either island without too much of a struggle. For me the cons of doing it this way included the price (online, game, etc), having to manage more than one nintendo account, friends list not carrying over, etc. Pros- can play the game with my original switch/play both switches together, can easily transfer items/villagers, don't struggle with day to day use.

If you have 2 characters, 1 on a different nintendo account and one on the main account, you can use the main account character to do stuff online, and the non main account character to play with your first island via local play.

Of course it's not ideal to have 2 characters unless you like that kind of thing.
Personally I dont so I've ruled out online with my second switch.

I went all out for my second town.
2nd Switch
2nd copy of the game
2nd account.

The only con is it takes a lot of time to put work into 2 towns.

I don't envision online is something I'm going to have forever on the second switch, which was a contributor to the decision as well. I like that I can still use local play either way!

Congrats on getting your second island.

fwiw, I have one physical copy and one digital copy and also play on the same profile but can play at the same time and visit myself through local play. both are registered to my Nintendo switch online account, though that shouldn’t matter for local play I know.

I can visit myself through local play. I made 2 nintendo accounts and I have 2 digital copies of the game. I could also visit myself through online if my second island had an online subscription.

Thats what I've done and it does work that way. I will say having a 2nd island is really bringing back the spark that I've haven't felt in a long time. Thats what was missing "Having stuff to do" and considering that I've chosen a Southern Hemisphere and a different island layout its making me feel a lot more comfortable playing it so I am not stuck with the same one island.
