Well shoot. I still wanted to get the Lily of Valley flowers, but I guess I will just have to visit my main island to get them and then put them on my 2nd island. I will stick with 8 villagers for my 2nd island. You need 10 villagers to get 5 stars.
You only need 3 stars to get KK so if that's as far as you're interested in going then 8 is fine.
I want to add that I was getting lily of the valley flowers at 4 stars too and I also had 10 villagers. It was really strange. To possibly add to the confusion:
I get the Lily of the valley flowers and I’m only at a 4 star rating.
I do have 10 villagers, though.
I hit the much sought after 5 star rating after Festival, where I was getting all these extra Festival items (including 3 floats!) and was just throwing them everywhere, instead of going to my house to store it. All that extra stuff on my island boosted me to 5 stars.
Having stuff that isn't decorations out on your island like turnips or stacks of wood can lower your rating by a star.To possibly add to the confusion:

That is so weird....I had done an experiment and would put away one piece of the Festival decorations and the next day, check in with Isabelle for my island rating.
I would repeat this process for quite some time. When I finally got down to putting the floats in storage, that’s when I went down to 4 stars.
The only things new that I have put out are a scarecrow by my pumpkin patch and 2 carp banners surrounding my fountain.
That was nothing compared to what I had displayed with all the Festival items, so I didn’t even think I would hit 5 stars.
Them the Lily of the Valley showed up. So, of course I went to Isabelle to check my rating and sure enough, it was still at 4 stars.
I done most villager trades last year and I am not doing it again given the bad experience I had with trading. I already have amiibo cards so I have clear ideas of who I am going to invite. Like I mentioned in OP I don't want to have the same personality of villagers because since there are only 8 personalities at the moment, having 10 is just not gonna work for me.I'd say that you should fill the 8, and save the last two spots for if you want a specific villager, really it's all up to you but leaving space ain't a bad idea to get your favorite villagers by like trading or something, honestly do what you want
Well if what you're saying is true that you need to have 10 villagers in order to get a 5 star rating then I guess I will just not do it. On my main island I already have 10 villagers and a 5 star rating so I will just have to go and visit myself in order to get the Lily of the valley flowers on that island and put it on my 2nd island. Right now I don't really mind the rating, all I wanted to know if the 10 villagers were required to get a 5 star and it seems like it is.It's easier to fill empty slots if you find a villager you really like than it is to have to remove one of your own first because you're maxed out at 10. You can also get the "Talk to every villager every day" NM goal easier with only 8 villagers to talk to instead of 10. Other than those things, it's better to have 10 for your island rating, more crafting opportunities, more gifts, etc.
The only difference between amiibo villagers is that it takes 3 days to invite them so you have to put an empty plot down on the 3rd day they decide to move in, whereas with the regular random visits you have to play the card game and win. When you do that they will start to move into the empty plot. Its been awhile since i moved in my villagers but if i remember correctly amiibos and campsite villagers can only move in if there is an empty plot. They cant kick anyone out
Yeah but I think what is meant is that you can't move out anyone with amiibo unless you have all 10 plots. The only difference between amiibo villagers is that it takes 3 days to invite them so you have to put an empty plot down on the 3rd day they decide to move in, whereas with the regular random visits you have to play the card game and win. Yeah thats the part thats annoying because of the RNG of the thought bubble going on the wrong villager that I don't want to move out.Yeah but I think what is meant is that you can't move out anyone with amiibo unless you have all 10 plots.
So if you change your mind on a villager, or want a starter gone, you have to wait for them to ask to move on their own.
